Wine Badagoni: history, overview of types, how and with what to drink

The wine of Badagoni Wines is a huge success thanks to a wide range of local wines, some of the best in Georgia. A wide range of products is also presented on international markets, about half of which is exported to Ukraine. The production volume is 1,5 million bottles annually.

History of Badagoni wines

2002 The wine project was born. It took several years to work out the details of production. The eastern region of Kakheti was chosen as the location. It is there, in the village of Zemo, that the winery is located.

2006 The year the brand was founded. The release of alcohol began immediately.

2018 In China, at the ASIA WINE & SPIRITS AWARDS 2018, the Alaverdi Badagoni line received gold.

2019 The manufacturer acquired the title of the best in Georgia according to the results of the German competition “Munduns Vini”. At the Australian “Sidney International Wine Competition” in 2019, dry red was included in the list of the 100 best. An unprecedented case for Georgia.

Location

Badagoni Wines is located in the fertile valley of the Alazani River. In the north near the impressive Caucasus Mountains. The unique climate of the region creates a rich soil for winemaking.

The company owns two wineries. One is located in the Akhmeta district, the village of Zemo Khodasheni. The second one is in Sagarejo municipality, Manavi village. During the construction of the winery, the company’s management invited world-famous specialists to install modern facilities. The buildings of the winery, equipment and laboratory fully comply with ISO standards.

Cooperation

Dr. Donato Lanati, head of the Enosis wine laboratory, one of the top five oenologists (the science of wine) and winner of the Oscar del Vino award, takes an active part in the activities of the enterprise.

Badagoni Wines is proud to cooperate with the Alaverdi Monastery, which was built in the 9th century and produces a line of Alaverdi Traditions wines. Recently, the company has been cooperating with well-known Italian companies “Bertolaso” and “Enotec”.

Types of Badagoni wines

  1. Alaverdi Tradition, 13,5%. Red dry from the Saperavi variety. Deep cherry. The taste is refined, with spicy fruity notes. The aroma is bright, cherry and spices are felt. The aftertaste is long-lasting. Matured in oak barrels produced by the Italian company Della Toffla. The temperature, including during maceration and fermentation, is carefully controlled.

  2. Alaverdi Tradition, 13,5%. White dry from Rkatsiteli variety. Straw. Intensely fruity. The aroma combines dried fruits, ripe peaches and apricots. Aftertaste with rich tannins. It is aged in monastery cellars, namely in qvevri at a constant low temperature, since qvevri is buried in the ground. During the fermentation and maturation process, miniature grape clusters and fruit skins are used.

  3. Kakhetian Noble, 13,5%. Red dry from the Saperavi variety. Dark garnet. The taste is soft, silky, it harmonizes currants with wild berries. The rich aroma is woven from cherry and oak notes. The aftertaste is long. Grapes for this species are harvested in the early morning, carefully sorted by hand. Alcohol is fermented in special containers located horizontally. The temperature is controlled automatically. Wine matures in French barrels from a year to 16 months.

  4. Kakhetian Noble, 13,5%. White dry from Kakhuri Mtsvane and Rkatsiteli. Light yellow. The taste is complex, soft, tinted with fruit and citrus. It smells of apple freshness, peach sweetness and mineral notes. The aftertaste is dry and sour.

  5. Kindzmarauli, 12%. Red semi-sweet from Saperavi. The color is similar to a ripe cherry. The taste is multifaceted, velvety with a fruity bouquet. The smell of black fruits and cherries. The drink is made unique by three types of vinifiers in production.

  6. Tsinandali, 13%. White dry from Kakhuri Mtsvane and Rkatsiteli. Straw. The taste is multifaceted, apple-spicy with peach hints. A delicate aroma reveals a floral bouquet, citrus fruits and berries. Its main advantage is the absence of acid.

  7. Alazani Valley, 12,5%. White semi-sweet from Rkatsiteli. Golden amber. Invigorating with spicy-fruity tones. Smells like quince.

  8. Badagoni Gross, 12,5%. Dry sparkling wine from Kakhuri Mtsvane. Light yellow. The taste is light with citrus notes and the freshness of apples. Unique and light citrus aroma. The finish is long, refreshing. Produced by the Charmat process. Belongs to the premium class.

  9. Badagoni Rose, 11%. Sparkling semi-sweet from Saperavi. Pale pink. Delicate with notes of fruits and berries. The aroma is well felt red berries, intertwined with fruit tones. The aftertaste is tinged with sweetness.

  10. Maestro Semi-Dry, 12%. Sparkling semi-dry from Kakhuri Mtsvane. Delicate amber. Exquisite taste, in which citrus fruits, ripe fruits and sour notes are in harmony. The fragrance reveals a bouquet of spring flowers with hints of freshness.

How and with what to drink

Red dry wines should be served with pork, beef, lamb, cooling them to 15 ° C. Vegetable snacks and fish are in harmony with white dry, they are cooled to 7-10 ° C. Red and white semi-sweet can be offered for desserts. Brut is usually served as an aperitif, but will go well with any meal. Sparkling wines are also cooled to 7–10 °C and are offered with cheeses, fruits and seafood.
