Wild Turkey Bourbon: Taste and Brand Review

Wild Turkey is an American brand of whiskey produced in Kentucky. The peculiarity of the brand is the minimum composition of corn distillate (51%). The drink is quite strong (50,5%) and settles for at least 6 years. Less strong varieties are exported around the world, with a strength of 43,4%.

History of Wild Turkey

The brand name is translated from English as “Wild Turkey”.

The history of its origin is associated with a widespread male occupation: hunting for wild birds.

Often, hunters drink strong drinks during breaks, a favorite of which is whiskey.

Irish winemakers, the Riley brothers, liked to take homemade whiskey for hunting, and soon their friends appreciated the exquisite taste of the drink.

And so the phrase “drink with turkeys” took root, as a result of which the Riley brothers decided to give the author’s brand a “bird” name.

Riley’s bourbon production was opened in 1869 in the USA.

After 24 years, the company was overtaken by a resounding success: Wild Turkey brand drinks were included in the list of exemplary alcoholic products in Kentucky.

The popularity of bourbon grew every day until Prohibition was introduced in the United States.

After the abolition of Prohibition in 1933, the production of Wild Turkey whiskey revived.

Seven years later, the company decorated its products with a unique label depicting a bird. Today, the company is overseen by Gruppo Campari.

The subtleties of the production of Wild Turkey

Bourbon is a grain distillate made from a 51:49 grain mixture.

Strong varieties of the brand are distilled at an alcohol strength of not more than 80% and kept in burnt oak containers for several years.

The first stage of distillation is followed by the use of a column.

The second is carried out in a doubler – a container, barely distinguishable from a traditional cube.

The result is an alcoholic beverage with a concentrated flavor.

Flavors of Wild Turkey

The Russell family, who took control of the company back in 1954, made a huge contribution to the formation of the unique taste of Turkey Bourbon.

Each alcoholic distiller has its own secret of making drinks, and the owners of Wild Turkey are no exception.

The decisive factor in the taste of bourbon is the wort yeast, the recipe of which has been passed down from generation to generation. At the moment, the secret of yeast has not yet been declassified.

With one sip, there is a fragrant bouquet of caramel, vanilla, Toffie and honey. Maple syrup creates a soft aftertaste.
