This is convenient, but not always justified.
Where do you keep your sunflower oil? Surely in the kitchen counter or hanging cabinet near the stove. It’s very convenient when everything you need for cooking is always at hand.
But if you read what is written on the label, you can see the following recommendation: store in the refrigerator after opening.
Here’s what is interesting: a favorable storage temperature for sunflower oil: from +8 to +17 degrees. And in the refrigerator it does not exceed +4. Due to the temperature difference, the lipids and vitamin E contained in the oil are destroyed. The oil becomes rancid, an unpleasant odor appears – and that’s it, such oil is no longer suitable for culinary purposes. It is especially dangerous to fry on it – such oil turns into poison when heated. The question arises: where is the best place to store the oil?

“You can keep a bottle of oil both in the cabinet and on the table. But only until the moment when it was not opened. But even a closed bottle must be protected from direct sunlight, otherwise it will go rancid. Also, keep the oil in a cool place. That is, let it be a cabinet, but not next to the stove.
It must be remembered that after opening, the shelf life of the product is reduced. It is better to pour the oil from a plastic into a glass bottle (preferably dark), since the first one, over time, under the influence of sunlight, begins to release harmful substances.
You need to store an open bottle only in the refrigerator, on the top shelf or on the door (but eggs cannot be kept there, by the way). Here the temperature is just +8 degrees. To keep the oil fresh for as long as possible, put two peas or beans in the bottle. So that it retains a pleasant smell, you can put a bay leaf or a clove in the container. “
How to store different types of oil
Vegetable oil will not go rancid if you pour it into a bottle up to the neck and pour 50 ml of vodka on top. After that, the bottle must be well sealed.
Olive oil can be kept open in a cool, dark place for about six months. You should not store it in the refrigerator: at temperatures below +12 degrees, it thickens and turns white. However, when it gets warm, it fully restores its properties.
Peanut butter can be stored in a closet for about a year before opening. To prevent it from going rancid after opening, it is best to put it in the refrigerator.
Linseed oil it is better to pour into bottles of 200 or 500 ml. It must be kept in a dark container so that ultraviolet light does not adversely affect the composition of the oil. It tends to quickly oxidize, so you won’t be able to stock it up for future use. Storage temperature: from +5 to +22. It is best to keep it on the refrigerator door.
Pumpkin Oil it is better to store it on the middle shelf of the refrigerator, as the temperature should not exceed +10 degrees.
Coconut oil at +25 degrees it becomes liquid. It will last the longest if it is kept in the refrigerator at a temperature not lower than +4 degrees.
