Why you can’t carry a child on your left hand

The expert told how the unilateral situation threatens the baby – even in the arms of the mother.

Those who have never dealt with a newborn before think that it is very easy to pick up a small child. True, when it comes down to it, many are shy: it’s scary, because the baby is so tiny, it’s so easy to harm him. And about “easy” they are right – but it’s not about injuries, but about the position of the baby. His well-being directly depends on this.

In order for the baby’s back to be healthy, it is important to distribute the load and avoid tension in the lumbar region. Otherwise, irregular curvature of the spine may form and cause problems with the hip joints.

There are many ways to carry a child. It is important to remember the basic rules.

– Carefully ensure that the baby’s head is not thrown back. It must be maintained until the neck muscles are strong (2 − 3 of the month).

– It is strictly forbidden to sharply raise or lower a child, as this may adversely affect his vertebrae.

– Do not take the newborn by the hands or with one hand.

“Many mothers prefer to carry their baby all the time on the same hand,” complains orthopedic surgeon Olga Klevakina… – Because of this, for example, the baby’s left hand (which remains free) develops better. And the child becomes left-handed as a result.

In Soviet times, it was considered a defect, since everything in the world is focused on right-handed people. One of the parents was able to retrain the child painlessly, and someone had to go through suffering. Often, retrained children had major problems in school, self-esteem fell somewhere close to zero, and isolation and anxiety remained for life. Now, however, left-handedness is one of the standard options.

However, you need to know that left-handers have some special features.

“Their leading hemisphere is the right one, – explains the podiatrist. – It is responsible for the imagery of thinking (the left hemisphere – for logic and rationality, – author’s note). A person perceives intonations and remembers everything in sensations. Therefore, left-handers are more emotional. You need to treat them very carefully, you cannot scold and chop from the shoulder. They are often prone to apathy, depression. They cannot stand up for themselves at school and because of this they suffer. You need to understand that they need time to learn how to write and read. These children need to be taught through games and creative assignments. “
