Can the meat grinder be washed in the dishwasher? What material is it made of. This is usually aluminum, which will not survive an automatic car wash.
The instructions for the machine indicate which dishes can and cannot be washed. Often, on the back of the devices there are signs – allowing or prohibiting. To understand all the subtleties, read our article.
Is it possible to put a meat grinder in the PMM
Every day you load plates, pots, pans into the PMM chamber and take them out clean and sparkling. Perhaps this should be the case with a meat grinder, you think. But it turns out that after the dishwasher it oxidized: it turned black, covered with a dark coating.
The fact is that meat grinders are made of aluminum alloy, which reacts with water. To protect against destruction, it is covered with an oxide film. But in the detergent for PMM there are alkalis that corrode the film, the metal oxidizes and darkens.
It’s not even scary that you take out the blackened dishes. Aluminum particles enter the human body and lead to negative consequences: it affects breathing, accumulates in the bones.
Even if the meat grinder is made of cast iron (old models), it is undesirable to load it into the PMM. The protective shell of cast iron products also peels off under prolonged exposure to water, as a result, the material rusts.
What dishes can be washed in the dishwasher, read in one of the previous articles.
How to get back the lost shine
What to do if your meat grinder has darkened or turned black after being washed in the car? Whether it is possible to restore its former luster depends on the degree of damage to the metal. If the coating has already peeled off, then it is unlikely that it will be possible to do something to help.
Often they write on the forums that the black coating is sodium tetrahydroxoaluminate, which is not washed off at home.
Despite this prediction, it’s still worth a try. We will tell you how to clean the meat grinder and wash the plaque if it was spoiled by washing in the car:
- Baking soda. Classic tool. Wet the object with water, sprinkle with soda and rub with a metal sponge for a long time until the blackness comes off. You will not achieve shine, but you will get rid of plaque.
Wash the parts in a soda solution, you can make it even worse.
- Soap. The same principle as with soda: lather the surface and rub with a sponge.
- Paste GOI used for polishing. Take a felt cloth, apply the paste and wipe the surface. Dialux paste is suitable for these purposes.
- Пrust remover HORSE is a very powerful tool. Use only when all else fails.
Some advise using citric acid and vinegar. But their action is rather weak, so they are unlikely to help.
What other recommendations do dishwasher users who have encountered a similar problem give:
- Cleaning with toothpaste and a felt brush. This procedure will require a lot of physical effort.
- Italian remedy CENTRALIN Brilliant Shine of Metals. Apply it to an abrasive sponge, this will help remove dark deposits from parts.
- Powder JIF saturated with abrasive granules that cope with stubborn dirt, but leave scratches on the surface.
- Wash the elements with the product Sanitol Shine of Steel, then polish the surface with Biolan. Inexpensive and affordable method.
- Leave the meat grinder to soak in water with the addition of tar soap. According to user experience, plaque leaves on its own.
Be sure to wear protective gloves when handling abrasive products.
Reminder: what not to put in the dishwasher
This list should always be in front of your eyes so that you do not have to deal with plaque or stains:
- Chipped, cracked dishes.
- Wooden cutting boards, bowls, spatulas.
- Copper and tin.
- Glass and plastic that cannot withstand high temperatures.
- Aluminum appliances, cast iron.
- Crystal, faience and silver – only with the use of a special program and detergents.
Thanks to our recommendations, you will restore the lost shine of the meat grinder if, after PMM, its parts have darkened.
