Why won’t the dishwasher turn on?

What to do if the dishwasher does not turn on? Sometimes there are breakdowns that can be completely fixed with your own hands, the main thing is to know how. Do not rush to call the wizard, read our article and try to fix the situation yourself.

Why won’t the dishwasher turn on?

Are you trying to turn on your Bosch, Electrolux, Siemens, Gorenje machine, but nothing happens? Lights and indicators do not light, the control panel does not respond to key presses. What you need to do: first check the availability of electricity in the network.

To do this, connect another device to the socket. If it does not work, then there is no voltage – this happens in houses with old wiring. Sometimes the voltage is simply not enough to turn on the equipment, so it is recommended to install differential automata and stabilizers. Wait, maybe the electricity will come soon.

Also inspect the power cord, it often suffers during transportation of equipment. A heavy body can be put on a cord, and it is crushed or interrupted. As a result, not only the dishwasher may not turn on, but a short circuit may also occur when connected to the network. If the machine knocks out, then the reason is also in the contacts of the network. Therefore, before starting the installation, carefully check all the components.

If the power cord breaks, it cannot be repaired. A complete replacement is required.

If no damage is found on the outside, you can check the insulation as follows:

  • take a multimeter and set it to ohmmeter mode;
  • attach the probes to the plug and measure the resistance.

In addition to problems with the electrics, the reason that the PMM “Whirlpul”, “Siemens”, “Electrolux”, Veko and other brands does not turn on may be:

  1. Faulty door lock. Until the door is tightly closed, the wash will not start.
  2. The start button is broken (stuck, fallen).
  3. Burnt out capacitor. This happens with a strong power surge.
  4. Problems with the control module. If the block is broken or burned out, the equipment will not turn on.

See below for how to find and fix the problem.

Dishwasher turns on but does not start

Another type of problem is that the appliance turns on, but does not work and does not start the washing process. At the same time, on the scoreboard you can see the error code that the self-diagnosis system displays. Also PMM “Bosch”, “Indesit”, “Hansa”, “Ariston” can squeak or buzz. Probably there was a problem with the water intake.

If the program starts normally, the “Brush” indicator on the control panel lights up, which means the washing process.

  1. Turn the stop valve.
  2. Check for water in the faucet.
  3. See if the intake hose is properly positioned.

If it’s not a blockage, then the problem may be in the fill valve. Why the dishwasher does not draw water and what to do about it, read our article.

What to do to troubleshoot

Problems in a dishwasher of any brand (Ariston, Hansa, Beko) can be fixed on your own. The main thing is to act consistently. Immediately check to see if the chamber door locks normally.

Testing the start button

Visually inspect the control panel. If the power key is stuck or detergent gets into the connectors, cleaning and replacement will be required. Disassemble the panel and check the button contacts with a multimeter. Replace part if necessary.

Capacitor replacement

As we wrote above, unstable tension can ruin not only the nerves, but also the technique. Due to a sharp drop, the capacitor could burn out. It is necessary to check and replace the element:

  1. Remove the decorative bottom panel under the door.
  2. Remove the mounting parts of the pallet.
  3. Open the hopper door, unscrew the drain filter and remove the sprinkler.
  4. Place the dishwasher on the back wall.
  5. Remove the screws and remove the pallet (disconnect the wiring along the way, if any).
  6. Find a capacitor. The part is attached to the circulation pump.
  7. If outwardly no traces of burning are visible, then check the element with a multimeter.
  8. Also inspect the wiring and make sure the contacts are good.

Problems with the electronic unit

A control board failure is a serious failure. In this case, the equipment either does not turn on at all, or it malfunctions. The module may break after water leakage. For example, during transportation, you did not remove the remaining water from the car, and it got on the board. Power surges also affect electronics.

You can only inspect the part yourself, but only the master can talk about repair or replacement. How to get to the control block:

  • open the chamber door;
  • unscrew all the bolts around the perimeter;
  • close the door and remove the outer panel;
  • disconnect the wiring from the module, first photograph all the connectors.

If burnt parts are visible on the surface of the board or wires, then repair is urgently needed. Take the part to the service for diagnostics.

So step by step check all the specified details. If you cannot find the damage yourself, it is better to contact a specialist.
