Most people occasionally have an eyelid twitch (lower or upper). What if this unpleasant feeling does not go away for a long time?
Why does the eyelid twitch
Eye tics or involuntary twitching of the eyelid is a symptom of irritation of the optic nerve, which has been in tension for a long time. This leads to involuntary contraction of the eye muscles. So what’s now? First, you need to establish the cause of the problem.
Eye tics: causes
- stressful situation;
- overwork;
- lack of sleep;
- increased consumption of caffeine, alcohol, or nicotine;
- dry eyes from working at a computer or reading for a long time;
- many hours of watching TV;
- a reaction to taking antidepressants or antihistamines;
- lack of necessary trace elements and vitamins in the body;
- physical injury (concussion, blow to the eye area);
- hereditary predisposition.
Eyelid twitching: what to do
Found on the list your reason why the eyelid twitches? Now we need to fix everything! Here are general guidelines for tic relief or prevention:

- eat 200 gr daily. fruits and vegetables of red (bell pepper), orange (carrots, pumpkin) and purple (eggplant, grapes, plums) flowers;
- Every 1,5 – 2 hours, take a break from a computer, book, TV;
- do exercises for the eyes: intense blinking, move your eyes left and right, up and down, look at distant, then at near objects;
- good exercise: just close your eyes and imagine a pleasant picture. Sea, seagulls or trees, birdsong;
- folk remedies: decoctions (teas) from medicinal herbs. For example, tea with mint, lemon balm will help with insomnia. A light decoction of valerian root will relieve stress, help with eye tics;
- do not be lazy, exercise! Look up from the monitor right now, walk around, “wave your wings”;

- be outdoors more often, walks are necessary.
As you can see, there is nothing complicated in this list. This is a fragment from the life of a healthy person. Take care of yourself too!
Remember, if the eyelid twitches for more than two weeks, you need to consult an ophthalmologist or neurologist! It is possible that eye tics are a symptom of glaucoma, blepharitis, or a problem with the cornea of the eye.
