There are breakdowns that require immediate repair. One of these cases is when the Ariston washing machine does not spin the drum. You have to manually wash a batch of laundry, and then look for the cause of the problem in order to restore the operation of the equipment. Fortunately, any malfunctions can be dealt with.
Ariston washing machine does not spin the drum: the reason
Where to begin? Sit down and remember from what moment the equipment refused to work. Characteristic symptoms indicate the cause of the trouble. If the machine filled with water, but the washing process did not start, or it slightly twisted the drum and stopped, then:
- there is an imbalance;
- frayed, the drive belt flew off;
- the heating element (heater) burned out;
- the engine is faulty;
- the tachogenerator is out of order;
- problems with the control module;
- wiring difficulties;
- a foreign object is stuck between the tank and the drum.
Wow! The list is huge. How to find the faulty part? We will tell you everything as soon as we consider another type of breakdown. If SMA Hotpoint Ariston does not rotate the drum only on the spin cycle, the reason is probably as follows:
- the plum system is clogged;
- the water level sensor is out of order;
- electronic module defective.
The problem may be trivial. For example, you turned off the spin and forgot to turn it on or reduced the number of revolutions. Check this item. In addition, rotate the drum with your hands. Doesn’t fit? Then it’s possible:
- a damaged belt has blocked the pulley;
- foreign object stuck in the drum;
- bearing damaged.
In the latter case, when the bearing is damaged, a rattle and rumble are heard. These symptoms are hard to ignore. If suddenly you hear that the washer is buzzing, but the drum is not rotating, the problem is probably in the engine.

Eliminate imbalance
Move from simple to complex. After checking the program settings, look into the hatch. Is the laundry bunched on one side? This indicates an imbalance. Apparently, the machine could not fix the problem, so it stopped working. Your task:
- Disconnect equipment from the network.
- Open a small door at the very bottom of the case (for most Ariston models, the drain filter is hidden behind a solid panel).
- Substitute the container, unscrew the filter and drain the water.
Now open the hatch and distribute things manually. You can also remove half of the laundry if the tank is frankly full. Try running the wash again.
Putting the drive belt back in place
The system works like this: after switching on, current is supplied to the motor and its pulley begins to rotate. The revolutions are transmitted through the belt to the tank pulley, which ensures the operation of the machine and washing clothes. It is enough to remove the key element – the belt, so that the chain is interrupted and the work stops.
What to do:
- After disconnecting the CMA from electricity, turn off the water and unscrew the supply hoses.
- Turn the body of the washer, unscrew the bolts of the rear panel.
- Examine the belt. Tears, abrasions, stretching indicate the replacement of the part.
If the belt just flew off the seat (it happens with strong vibration), then put it on the motor pulley first, and then on the tank pulley.
We replace the heater
The heating element is easy to replace, but to understand that it is really faulty is another matter. To do this, you need a tester (multimeter). If there is no device, then it is better to contact the master. It would not be superfluous to familiarize yourself with the algorithm for replacing the heating element in the Hotpoint Ariston SMA:
- In most cases, the heating element is located behind the back wall of the machine. Sometimes you only need to remove a small plinth panel.
- Disconnect the terminals from the heater and connect the multimeter probes. A working part will show from 10 to 30 ohms, a faulty part will show 1 or infinity.
- To replace, unscrew the central nut of the heating element and push the bolt inward.
- Take out the old one and put in the new one.
When replacing the heating element, shine a flashlight into the hole to check the tank for foreign objects. You can get the element using a thin wire.
Test the new heater by running a wash at 70-80 degrees. If the hatch glass is hot, and things are warm at the exit, then the element is working properly.
We examine the engine
The motor is energized and you can hear it humming. But when scrolling, the drum rotates, but not when washing. Here’s what could have happened to the engine:
- The brushes are worn out. Two parts transmit current to the motor collector. Over time, they are erased, and the chain is interrupted.
- Interturn short circuit or open winding. When you turn on the machine in the room, it can knock out traffic jams.

Problems require careful diagnosis and replacement of faulty elements. True, if the winding breaks, it is easier to install a new motor. This happens during power surges. The engine is located at the rear under the tank. To replace, you need to disconnect the wires and unscrew the mounting bolts.
A tachometer is located on the motor shaft, which controls the speed of revolutions. At the same time, check the part, tighten the fasteners more tightly.
Checking the pressure switch
The level sensor measures the amount of water in the tank. Until the device sends a signal to the control module, the machine will not continue the program. How to be:
- Remove the CMA top cover by unscrewing the bolts at the back.
- At the side wall, find a small round piece.
- Disconnect the wiring and unscrew the pressure switch fasteners.
- To check, connect a tube to the fitting and blow into it.
If clicks are heard at the same time, the sensor is working. If silence – out of order. Buy a new part and install in reverse order.
What will help prevent problems in the future:
- Careful inspection of things for the presence of foreign objects before loading.
- Proper loading of laundry, according to the norm in the instructions.
- Connecting equipment through a voltage stabilizer.
- Proper leveling of the machine.
