It can happen to anyone, but how do you fix it? We’ve got a couple of easy tips on how to bring your nails back to their natural color.
Girls who paint their nails with varnish too often have probably noticed that after removing the coating, their nail plate turns yellow. And no matter how hard you try, a special liquid will not be able to rid you of this unpleasant shade. As always, improvised methods will come to the rescue, but we will talk about them a little later. Let’s say right away that we know three very simple ways to treat yellowed nails.
If you notice that the plate has become denser, changed color and looks super curved (even wavy), then this is the main signal that something is wrong with your health and you should go to see a dermatologist. If the nails have not changed their shape, but have acquired a yellow tint, then you should not worry – this can be solved.
So. Changing the color of your nails is a fairly common and unavoidable problem with regular use of nail polish (yes, we know it’s obvious). But this only happens when you forget or ignore the use of a base coat every time you apply a coat. The base acts as a barrier between the nail plate and the varnish, thereby protecting it from yellowing and, in some cases, strengthening it.
Another common reason is that your nail polish formula contains substances that give your nails the unwanted color. This side effect is most common with darker shades, such as magentas, blues, deep reds, and blacks.
If you found out about the causes of yellowed nails only now and the plate is no longer of the wrong shade, then arm yourself with a scrub or regular soap and try to wipe off the stains with them. If they are small, you can try cleaning them with a whitening toothpaste and a damp brush.
When the pigment has strongly eaten into the nail plate, you can try to break it down with hydrogen peroxide. Start by mixing 3-4 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide with ½ cup warm water. After that, sit back and soak your nails for a couple of minutes in the resulting solution. Take a soft toothbrush, a gentle hand scrub – rub your nails gently and then dip them back into the solution. Finally, rinse your hands with water, apply hand cream, and voila – your nails look perfect!
