Turmeric, a miracle food? This spice is gaining more and more followers and it is not this latest study that will contradict its supporters.

Turmeric would fight against depression, cancer or eczema

Turmeric is a spice that in its raw form looks a bit like the root of ginger, but when crushed becomes a bright yellow powder, very popular in South Asian cuisine. These last years, everything has been said about turmeric and it has a beneficial role in the fight against many ailments.

There are no less than 200 different compounds in turmeric, but the one that scientists are really interested in in this spice is curcumin. Many studies have already been carried out on the subject and all praise the exceptional qualities of this substance.. But these studies have mainly been carried out on mice, using doses that are difficult to reconcile with normal human food. To remedy this shortcoming, Michael Mosley, presenter of the program Trust Me, I’m A Doctor, broadcast on the with the BBC, decided to conduct its own clinical study.

A miracle discomfort found in the body of the participants

100 people volunteered to participate in this survey, during which they were divided into three groups. The first group was asked to mix a teaspoon of turmeric every day in their meals, for six days. The second group had to swallow a dietary supplement containing the same dose of turmeric while a placebo was given daily to the third group.

At the end of these six days, the participants took part in various analyzes carried out by Professor Martin Widschwendter, an eminent specialist in the appearance of cancers. The latter was formal to ensure that there was no noticeable change in the analyzes of groups who had consumed a dietary supplement or a placebo. On the other hand, in the blood of the participants who daily mixed a dose of turmeric with their food was found a very specific discomfort. The latter would fight in particular against depression, asthma, eczema, and cancer. More studies need to be done to confirm these results, but they are already tending to prove that turmeric may well be a miracle food.
