Why is a dry paroxysmal cough in a child dangerous?
A cough is a reaction of the respiratory tract to an irritant. A dry cough is especially annoying, it irritates the throat and gives a lot of unpleasant minutes to the sick person. Why does a dry, paroxysmal cough appear? Is it possible to help with this with folk remedies?
Causes of dry irritating cough
Before looking for a way to get rid of a cough or relieve your condition during attacks, you need to understand its causes. The most common among them are:
- Respiratory diseases. With the right approach, relief comes within 3 days. Otherwise, complications in the form of bronchitis and pneumonia are possible.
- Foreign body – dust particles or crumbs stuck in the airways. The attack goes away if the irritant is removed.
- If a child has a dry, paroxysmal cough, it may be a symptom of whooping cough. At first, it manifests itself as a common cold cough, but conventional remedies for it do not help. Attacks usually intensify towards night and may be accompanied by an urge to vomit. Therapy is most often carried out in a hospital setting.
- Attacks of severe coughing can be a symptom of acute bronchitis. Concomitant symptoms are a runny nose, sore throat, and fever. With the right therapy, over time, a dry cough becomes moist and goes away completely.
- If a dry paroxysmal cough does not allow sleep at night, this may be a sign of bronchial asthma. At the same time, pains are felt in the chest and even in the abdomen, as well as suffocation. The attack can last from 30 minutes to an hour.
In almost all of these cases, medical attention is required. Traditional methods can only be used to combat respiratory diseases.
Folk remedies for dry cough
A dry paroxysmal cough in an adult and a child can be relieved with folk remedies:
- The onion is chopped and mixed with 2 tbsp. honey. Leave to infuse overnight. In the morning, the separated juice is drunk, and the onion is consumed during the day.
- A hole is cut out in the fruit of a black radish and 2 tablespoons are placed in it. honey. Insist on the remedy for 3-4 hours. Take a teaspoon of juice several times a day before meals and at night.
- Dry mustard powder, vegetable oil and flour are mixed in equal proportions. The lozenge is wrapped in plastic and applied to the back or chest, avoiding the heart area.
If the cough does not go away for a long time, you need to see a doctor to avoid complications. And even if folk remedies seem safe and simple to you, it is still better to consult a specialist before using them.
