Why houseplants bought in a store die
It is worth bringing a flower pot home from a supermarket or even a flower shop, as in a couple of weeks, for a maximum of a month, it dries up.
Dracaena and thuja, roses and chrysanthemums – you grab a pot of cute crumbs in the supermarket on the way to the checkout, carefully transplant, and after a few weeks, despite all your efforts, the plant dies. Do not rush to give up on your floristic talents. The reason for the death of a plant often lies in the desire of the store to sell “live” goods at any cost.
4 causes of plant death …
First, the not all commercial premises have conditions for keeping plants. Sometimes you can see how the pots are crowded in the corner. Naturally, flowers not enough lighting… And this has a disastrous effect on their future fate.
Second, the to make the product appear more attractive, it is better to show it during flowering. Therefore, many sellers use growth promoters or hydroponics (a method of growing plants without soil, in which all nutrients are obtained from a solution). Of course, this artificially forces the plant to develop with accelerated force. The flower spends all its vitality on this, takes energy for growth “on credit”, but there is nothing to replenish it with. After he is no longer able to independently support metabolic processes, the plant dies.
Third, sometimes sellers overdo it with the dosage of stimulants. Because of this, fungal diseases can develop that are visually invisible, but in fact they destroy the root system from the inside.
Fourth, special transport mixture. It is used for plants so as not to bring parasites to another country. However, each flower needs a certain soil to maintain the moisture level it needs. And the transport mixture with the addition of peat only dehydrates the earth. Therefore, an overdried plant cannot live long.
… and how to save them
Be sure to transplant the purchased flower into a new pot. At firstso you move it to safe soil. Secondlywhile checking the status of the root system. If it is rotten or infested with pests, cut off those parts. Put healthy roots in water for 2-3 days, then you can only transplant the plant into a new container. Third, Try to gently shake off old soil from the roots to rid the plant of the remainder of harmful stimulants. Rinse the roots thoroughly in water before transplanting.
Sometimes the roots are even disinfected – they are placed not just in water, but in a very weak solution of potassium permanganate. This helps to get rid of parasites and fungi that can nest on the roots.
By the way
It is believed that only stolen flowers bloom well. That is, in order to acquire a green jungle at home, you need to snatch a shoot from a friend, a florist. But we strongly advise against doing this. Because, in fact, the omen says: the mother plant is offended when its “baby” is given to someone just like that. And therefore both it and the baby perish. To save the plant, you need to ask for at least a symbolic coin for the seedling. The sign went back to the times of ancestors: there was nowhere to buy seedlings, so they broke off the process secretly, and buried a coin in the ground next to the mother’s flower.
