Why gym makeup is a bad idea

What is there, it’s boring to come to the fitness room without makeup: you can’t even make beautiful selfies. But makeup and training are incompatible. We explain why.

What will happen to the skin if you put on makeup before going to the gym

Decorative cosmetics are called so because they remain on the surface of the skin. When we do vigorous exercise, sweat and sebum are released, and heavy makeup prevents them from coming out.

As a result, the excretory channels of the sebaceous and sweat glands can become clogged, which creates a favorable environment for the reproduction of pathogenic microorganisms. Touching the face with the hands that held the handles of the simulators, we exacerbate the situation. The result is black dots, pimples, inflammation.

In the area of special risk – the owners of oily and combination skin.

There is another side of the coin, also unsympathetic. During sports, cosmetics mix with sweat, acquiring new and not at all beneficial properties for the skin. You can read about how to care for your skin before and after a workout here.

To the question “Do I need to wash off makeup before training?” Dermatologists unanimously answer: definitely.

When we are engaged in active physical activity, sebum is released, and dense makeup will prevent it from coming out.

Cleansing the skin before training

If you are wearing makeup, take it off before you start your workout. And at the same time cleanse the skin of accumulated dirt, sweat, excess sebum. In the gym, it is most convenient to remove cosmetics with micellar water or special cleansing wipes.

Micellar water

Micellar water replaces several products at once. Micelles in its composition attract any fat-containing particles, including sebum and cosmetics.

Experts recommend washing your face after using micellar water, even if the bottle says it’s optional.

A remedy marked “for all skin types” is suitable for everyone, but there are varieties:

  • for oily and problematic skin (with absorbent and sebum-regulating components, they should not be applied to the area around the eyes);
  • for sensitive skin (without fragrances and with emollients).

Micellar water may include oils, vitamins, plant extracts, which additionally care for the skin.

Cleansing wipes

Wet wipes with a non-woven base are ideal for express cleansing: they remove even waterproof makeup, and also perfectly refresh the skin. The composition of the impregnation includes:

    • surface-active substances (surfactants) – there are not many of them, but they cope with make-up removal;
    • pH level regulators;
    • emollients and emollients;
    • moisturizing ingredients;
    • antioxidants.

If you’re here for a make-up workout, get rid of it.
