Why dracaena dries and what to do with it
If the dracaena dries, she is missing something. The first step is to analyze the condition of the soil and air to find out the reasons.
When buying a flower you like, you need to pay attention to the conditions of its maintenance. Dracaena is no exception. The homeland of these plants is shady rainforests with high humidity. At home, for dracaena, you need to create similar conditions, otherwise the plant will begin to dry.
The most common causes of leaf dryness are:
- dry indoor air;
- sudden changes in temperature;
- insufficient watering;
- stagnant moisture;
- constant drafts;
- direct sunlight;
- damage to the scabbard;
- age.
The leaves have a lifespan of two years, then they begin to dry and gradually die off. There is nothing wrong with that, such leaves just need to be removed in a timely manner.
If the trunk dries up, it means that the plant is sick with rot. In severe cases, there is nothing better than to throw away the old plant, cutting off the still living top and rooting it.
What to do if dracaena leaves dry
The best place for dracaena is the windows facing west or east. Dark green species prefer diffused lightening, and variegated ones prefer brighter, but not sunny.
The tips of the leaves often dry out due to inadequate or over-watering. If the soil is dry at a depth of 3 cm, dracaena should be watered abundantly. But the water should not stagnate in the flowerpot, good drainage is needed. In winter, the plant is watered every four days. But if it is near radiators, watering is not reduced.
Do not put the plant on a constantly open window or near an air conditioner.
Dracaena does not like sudden changes in temperature and reacts to this by drying out the tips of the leaves. The optimum temperature is + 19… + 25 ° C.
If the leaves dry out due to the scabbard, they just need to be treated with soapy water mixed with alcohol. Carefully processing each leaf will help get rid of this scourge.
To prevent the dracaena from drying out, you need to follow the simple rules for caring for it.
- Wipe the leaves regularly with a damp sponge.
- Spray daily with a spray bottle.
- Take a shower every seven days.
- Protect from drafts.
Water the plant with soft, settled water. Do not forget about dressing, the main thing is not to overdo it, otherwise the leaves will turn black.
It is not difficult to eliminate the problems that have arisen. If you create optimal conditions for dracaena, the situation should return to normal after a short time.
