A hairdresser-stylist with 20 years of experience – what you need to know when deciding on a haircut for Jennifer Aniston, Charlize Theron or Olga Buzova.
Hello, my name is Sofia. I am 42 years old, and 22 of them I cut and dye my hair. During this time, a lot has changed in the industry, but something always remains the same – the desire of women to imitate other women. And also their naivety, because of which there are sometimes overlaps in my work. Mostly they occur when this naivety is superimposed on the very desire to imitate.
“Do as Rachel did,” said my first client back in 1997.
I was not a fan of Friends (and it happens), so I had no idea what was on this Rachel’s head. Fortunately, the client had a magazine clipping with her. Now I can repeat Jennifer Aniston’s haircut with my eyes closed. In the late 1990s, she was a real hit. Most of all problems arose with her.
– Cut it. You did not do that, – said the client, returning to the salon a week later.
Jennifer Aniston’s haircut was a hit in the late 1990s.
I looked at her hair, which resembled tow, and became thoughtful. There was nothing to “cut”. Aniston has a simple haircut, and the student will repeat it. In general, I washed the girl’s head, did a couple of distracting maneuvers with scissors and styled her hair as required by the magazine photo.
– Now it’s perfect, – exclaimed the client, whom in fact I hardly changed her haircut, but only made the necessary styling. On that and parted. She did not come again. But there were many others, from whose comebacks I have always tried to insure myself by explaining all the details and nuances.
Today there is no single popular haircut, so the educational program has to be carried out individually each time. However, there are general rules, understanding which you can easily assess the chances of success before you force the stylist to take up the scissors.

Any haircut requires styling. When they bring me a picture of a star, taken as part of a photo shoot or on the red carpet, I ask to find a photo of the same girl in everyday conditions. This is exactly what a haircut will look like in 80% of cases. To make it look like the reference photo, careful styling should be a daily must-have ritual. Is it possible? Even stars who have a staff of stylists often neglect this option.

One haircut looks different. It does not always depend on the curvature of the hands of the master. There are also natural factors: the thickness of the hair (the story of my first client “Rachel”), their texture (straight, curly) and quality (healthy or worn out by experiments). If you fall for a sleek hairstyle with curly hair, keep in mind that a haircut will only be the first step towards your dream. Further, you will have to add a straightening procedure to it or remember the need to pull the curls daily.
A haircut may look different due to factors that do not depend on the skill of the stylist: the density, texture and quality of your hair.
A haircut may just not suit you. In this case, the effect of forgery can also occur. It will seem that it is simply “not so” cut. I do not exclude the possibility of this fact, since not all hairdressers are the owners of golden hands. But even those masters for whom they are not even “gilded” are able to cut the classics: bob, pixie, bob. Most likely, the point is that the haircut is not yours, and therefore it does not look like that.

Complex stains are good for styling. Ombre, shatush, balayazh – each of these techniques is aimed at creating a play of colors and overflows. The smoother the surface of the hair, the brighter the light will play on them. That is why coloring can also look completely different in everyday life, when the hair is devoid of mirror shine. Here is an example of Jessica Alba’s luxurious hair, which in the photo on the right no longer seems so luxurious. Is not it?

So, I’m not saying that under no circumstances will you be able to get hold of a hairstyle like a star from a glossy picture. But in order for the chances of success to be high, a lot of factors will have to be taken into account.
1… The type of haircut should suit your type (you can use the Dvin Larson system).
2… It is imperative to critically evaluate the initial data: the similarity of the texture and quality of the hair.
3… It is important not to be lazy and remember that a haircut is just the first step towards your perfect hairstyle.
4. But! Even in styling, the hair will not lie exactly like Olga Buzova on the cover of the magazine. After each shot, a stylist comes up to her and straightens the strand so that she lies exactly as it should. After that, retouchers are included in the work, whose work both the original haircut and the hair color can change beyond recognition.
PS To really appreciate the haircut and hair color, it is better to look at the pictures of the stars taken by the paparazzi.
