Why doesn’t the male brain like fat?

The brains of a woman and a man are different from each other. It turns out that not only in terms of the way of thinking, but also the effect of a high-fat diet on him.

Fat for the brain

The brain and spinal cord are approximately 60 percent fat. Nerve fibers are mostly surrounded by a protein-lipid sheath. Hormones are produced from fat, it is a solvent for vitamins A, D, E and K, which indirectly improves the appearance of the skin and affects blood clotting. In addition, fat acts as a thermal insulation and is a protective cushion for internal organs. Therefore, triglycerides are an important component of the diet that should not be abandoned.

Harmful excess

Fat in the product carries flavor and texture. Therefore, what is fatty is tasty. No wonder that we are drawn to cream ice cream, fried fries or pork knuckle. Men especially like the greasy delicacies of Polish cuisine, which often becomes a loss for them. Although fat should not be missing in the daily menu, its amount should be optimal. Why? What is the effect of a high-fat diet on the body? Is there any difference between its effects on a woman and a man?

A tasty little (70 g) chop with bacon is up to 20 g of fat and over 200 kcal.

The first clues point us towards the cardiovascular system, the next to type II diabetes. The fat tire around the waist is a straight path to heart attack and systemic problems. It turns out, however, that excess fat also has a negative effect on the brain. While it needs the right amount, too much of it promotes inflammation. Studies in mice show that the male brain is prone to the negative effects of a high-fat diet. Abdominal obesity is also a male domain. Why do men get negative effects in the first place?

Estrogenic protection

It turns out that premenopausal women have a strong weapon in the form of estrogen. They protect them both from excessive cholesterol levels and, as it turns out, from inflammation in the brain itself. Besides, these hormones have an influence on the metabolism. After the mice were deprived of estrogen receptors from the brain during the experiment, they began to gain weight. A similar situation occurs in the case of postmenopausal womenwhen the estrogenic activity decreases. It turns out that suddenly the figure begins to change, fatty tissue is more likely to be deposited around the abdomen, and the concentration of cholesterol in the blood increases. Women then begin to deal with the same health problems as men, and a fatty diet has the same negative impact on them. They grow, among others, risk of heart attack and other cardiovascular diseases. What gets a man at any age reaches a woman after the menopause.
