Why does a child have a fever without symptoms and what to do about it
When a child’s temperature jumps for no apparent reason, parents begin to worry. But first you need to figure out why this is happening. Such jumps are not always due to serious health problems.
Why does the child’s temperature jump
There can be many reasons. But most often they talk about a hidden inflammatory process in the body. It can be tonsillitis, acute respiratory infections or inflammation of any organ.
If this reason is ruled out, there are quite a few others:
- teething in infants;
- overheating and long walks under the scorching sun;
- stressful situations, overexcitement or fear.
In the latter case, neurologists talk about thermoneurosis. This is the body’s defensive response to stress. As a rule, the temperature does not rise above 37,5 ° C. This happens most often with preschoolers or first graders. When they are at home, everything is normal, as soon as they go to school or kindergarten, the temperature immediately starts to rise. Parents themselves can control this by regularly measuring body temperature at the same time of day.
What to do if a child has a fever without symptoms
Each baby is individual, and the temperature at different times of the day can be very different. In the morning, readings should not exceed 36,6 ° C. The temperature peaks in the afternoon and can reach 37,2 ° C. For some children, a temperature of 37 – 37,2 ° C is the norm, such a feature of their body.
If the temperature rises constantly, you need to see a doctor. Many diseases proceed without symptoms, and only a specialist can determine that something is wrong with the child.
A one-time rise in temperature is not terrible. If the child normally tolerates an increase in temperature to 38-38,5 ° C – in this case, it does not need to be knocked down, if the baby as a whole feels good, plays, does not complain of pain and is not capricious.
But young children need to be monitored especially carefully, as they can develop a fever in a matter of minutes.
If the temperature change is due to overheating and stress, parents need to create a comfortable environment for the child and check the temperature again.
In the case of thermoneurosis, you should not worry too much. This disease does not require special treatment. It is enough to eliminate traumatic factors: to ensure a comfortable stay in kindergarten or school, help with studies, show love and affection, and establish a daily routine. Sometimes doctors recommend taking an additional course of taking sedatives.
Temperature jumps in most cases do not pose a danger to the health of the child. But if this is repeated often, it is better to have a complete examination.
