Surely you were offered many times when buying a subscription to use the first lesson with a coach. True, there are so many “buts” at once. The Woman’s Day columnist decided to figure out why a personal trainer is needed.
A few years ago, when I just came to the gym, my plan was as follows: attend a gift first training session, well, maybe take a couple more for your money, quickly delve into all the intricacies and then do it yourself – what’s so difficult? I was lucky – I immediately got to a good coach (and how to choose him – we had a separate article about this), and I still cannot part with him.
I regularly visit him twice a week, and, moreover, when he left the fashionable club, I followed him to a simple gym.
Why do you need a coach? For many it is elementary boring to do it alone, and they also need a person who will make them do the exercises and motivate them. In addition, if there is a preliminary agreement for a lesson at a specific time, it disciplines, and there are fewer reasons to be absent. In the conditions of the economic crisis, when everyone is counting money and keeping track of expenses, such arguments seem to me personally rather dubious, but they also have a right to exist. If you are already a responsible and disciplined person, then let’s discuss what practical benefits personal training will bring you.
Firstly, for different purposes (losing weight, creating a relief, increasing endurance), workouts are built in different ways. Moreover, the exercises are often the same, but they are combined for your specific tasks, separate training, supersets, circular, interval – will give you different results.
Second, of course, is the exercise technique. If you are confident that you know how to do the exercise correctly and there is a mirror nearby, this is one thing. If you are a beginner, you have not yet developed muscle memory and there is no mirror, which is quite another. Even if it seems to you that you are doing everything right, this is not always the case. Elementary: move your arm / leg / body a few centimeters, and completely different muscles will work. Working with serious weights is also traumatic, and the technique in this case is extremely important!
Not all exercises will work the first time. Often, beginners have to learn even simple squats. And the trainer knows how to lead you to the main exercise, how to prepare and strengthen the necessary muscles.
The same goes for tailoring exercises specifically for you. If you have any medical or physiological limitations, then not all exercises can be performed in their original form. And how to remove the load from the area, which is undesirable to use, and direct it where necessary, the trainer will again tell.
It is clear that this pleasure is not cheap. But no one forces you to hire a coach every time you go to the gym. If you want to save money, you can take several workouts in a row to remember which machine works and then hire a trainer from time to time. For example, agree to draw up a training program that you will perform on your own. At the same time, a mentor can be hired every two weeks or a month, depending on your capabilities. At these times, he will follow your technique, progress and adjust the lesson plan for the future.
You can buy a block for ten or more workouts at once. In this case, you will pay less for one workout. Let’s say a separate lesson costs 2 thousand rubles, and a block of ten – 17 thousand. Just keep in mind that such blocks are usually limited in time, and those workouts that you do not have time to leave will “burn out”.
Another way to save money if training at your club is too expensive. Carefully ask the trainer, maybe he trains in another place privately and for a different amount. In this case, both you feel good (just do not forget to calculate the entrance to the new gym and other additional costs), and the coach (after all, in the club he receives about 30% of the cost of the lesson). I know from the example of my acquaintances that sometimes it turns out exactly twice as cheap.
