Why do dracaena leaf tips dry?

Even the most unpretentious houseplant can get sick. For example, dracaena leaves dry at the tips of the leaves if not properly cared for. We will talk further about what mistakes flower growers usually make and what to do if the dracaena begins to dry.

Why do dracaena leaves dry

Dracaena, or, as the people call it, the dragon tree, is an unpretentious houseplant. It is somewhat reminiscent of a palm tree, so lovers of exotic will like it. The thick trunk and sharp, long green leaves will perfectly decorate the room. But, if you do not create suitable conditions for the plant, it will start to hurt.

With proper care, the leaves of the dracaena will not dry.

If the foliage on the dracaena has begun to dry, first try to figure out the reasons. There may be several of them.

  • The air in the room is too dry. The optimal indicator for a flower and human health is 60-70% humidity. You can spray the dragon tree more often to create an artificial rain effect.
  • Direct sunlight. This plant does not like being in the open sun, so move it to the western or eastern windows of an apartment or house.
  • Dry soil. Lack of watering in many indoor plants leads to yellowing of the leaves. This also applies to dracaena. You can check the soil moisture level with a wooden stick, dropping it into the ground by 3 cm. If the stick remains dry, it’s time to water the flower.
  • Excess feeding. In this case, the leaves do not just dry out, but begin to blacken. Fertilizers need to be applied only during the period of active growth in spring or early summer, only twice every seven days.
  • Unsuitable water. Dracaena does not like hard water. For watering, it is recommended to use settled boiled water.
  • Cold air. It is a tropical plant. If you see that the leaves of dracaena dry up and at the same time they curl up into a tube, this is a sign of frostbite. The room must be kept at a temperature above 16 ° C.

Only after you have correctly identified the cause of dry foliage can you find a way to help the flower.

What to do when dracaena leaves dry

You need to find the right place for the dracaena. It is quite unpretentious, but nevertheless, some care rules must be observed:

  • provide diffused lighting, avoiding direct sunlight;
  • “Bathe” or spray the flower in dry air in the room at least once a day;
  • place a pallet with expanded clay under the pot and fill it with water: the steam effect will increase the humidity level;
  • apply fertilizer only in spring or early summer and no more than twice a week;
  • don’t overcool the dragon tree.

If, nevertheless, dry areas appear on the foliage, carefully cut them off with sharp scissors.

By following simple guidelines for caring for dracaena, you can grow a beautiful “home palm”. It will always delight you with its long green leaves, bringing a touch of exoticism to the interior.
