Still: it is useful, it is easy to purchase it in any store, and there are no problems with cooking cereals. But our western neighbors do not see so much value in buckwheat, we see it so much, and groats are popular only in the countries of the former USSR. Now we’ll tell you why!
It’s harder to find buckwheat abroad
It is in Russia that it is sold even in a little bit of a stall. In the United States, for example, Russians who have relocated note that not every fifth store can find this cereal. In supermarkets it is not, but you can find it in stores that are kept by Russians, but there prices for it differ from ours, because due to the long transportation, the price tag skyrockets. Often friends and guests from Russia are asked to bring cereals to America. Another place in the United States where you can find buckwheat for sale is fitness centers and stores that specialize in healthy eating. But they offer a different recipe for cooking cereals. It is brewed not as porridge, but as a kind of detox drink: buckwheat is brewed as tea for weight loss. The drink is slightly bitter.
As for Europe, things are even more interesting with buckwheat. Buckwheat can be found in pharmacies: it is sold as a medicinal cereal that treats gastrointestinal diseases and anorexia. In addition, buckwheat indications are not particularly used. Do not like! The only country that liked buckwheat is Israel, as cereals are eaten more often than other European countries.

Buckwheat is not eaten in the USA and Europe due to cultural characteristics
The gastronomic habits of the people and the country as a whole have been formed over the centuries. And there is an assumption that they do not like and do not eat buckwheat abroad, because it simply did not grow there. People do not have the habit of eating buckwheat. But groats grew well on the territory of the countries of the former CIS, which left an imprint on the nutrition of the peoples of these countries. A similar example is China and rice. It has been grown and eaten there for centuries, people have become accustomed to it, they cannot imagine their table without it, they add it to everything and always, or they eat it in its pure form. Such a favorite cereal in the United States is corn and oatmeal in the form of cereals and cereals for breakfast. And in general, some traditions and aspects of life in the United States are very surprising. And one more nuance: abroad there are different taste preferences, therefore foreigners consider our favorite buckwheat bitter and tasteless.
