The WHO expert report on the genesis of COVID-19 will most likely indicate the thesis that the coronavirus is transmitted to humans from bats via another animal, such as a cat, the AFP agency reported on Tuesday. The report is intended in practice to dismiss the laboratory leak theory.
The origin of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus
According to the French agency, which reached the document before its presentation scheduled for Tuesday at 16, experts recommend continuing research on the three most likely theses in their opinion, among which there is no one about the virus escaping from the laboratory.

The most likely thesis concerns the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 to humans from the natural reservoir of animals (most likely bats) via another animal vector. The main “suspects” here are: the domestic cat, rabbit, mink, pangolin or musk rye.
However, WHO researchers also do not exclude the theory of direct transmission of the virus from bats – this thesis is dubbed “possible or probable” – and Beijing’s favored theory of virus transmission via frozen meat, which has been deemed “possible”.
At the same time, the theory of SARS-CoV-2 getting out of the laboratory of the Wuhan Institute of Virology was judged to be “extremely improbable”.
The full report summarizing the WHO experts’ visit to China in January and February is to be presented at a press conference in Geneva at 16. On Monday, World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that “all theories are on the table” and should be carefully researched.
The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, who presented the idea of an international anti -andemic treaty, so far endorsed by 23 countries and the WHO, will also participate in the press conference.
