Why do heterosexual women watch adult films with lesbian couples? Opinion of experts and active amateurs.
“I watch porn, and more often one where girls with girls,” admits 35-year-old Anastasia. One or two evenings a week, she gives herself this pleasure – she visits sites to watch videos of lesbian sex, but it would be a mistake to think that this reflects her orientation: Anastasia is heterosexual and in reality only dates men. “Lesbian” is a video category that is highly sought after by women, according to a 2014 report from Pornhub. Women are 445% more likely than men to search for a “girl with a girl”, according to search statistics. While the report relies on Google data and therefore does not take into account the user’s sexual orientation, the sheer number of searches suggests that a large proportion of this female audience is heterosexual. This is also reflected in the surge in “lesbian seduces straight” queries, which grew by 328% between 2013 and 2014, according to the same report.
“Statistics indicate that a third of adult users of porn sites are women,” says sex therapist Kimberly Resnick Anderson. “Although we cannot determine how many of this third are heterosexual women, the percentage itself is too high to be attributed to homosexuals. Quite ordinary women are looking for lesbian porn.”
The porn industry can only take this circumstance into account. Approximately 7% of the videos on PornHub are in the lesbian category, and this is by far the most requested category. “I don’t want to speculate about how this kind of heterosexual female interest will affect our industry, but so far it’s clear that our partners are uploading more lesbian content than ever before,” notes Corey Price, vice president of the site. price).

Lesbian videos give many straight women the opportunity to imagine what it would be like to be with another woman. They watch lesbian porn because it gives them room to fantasize, not because they have doubts about their sexual orientation or are about to have new experiences in reality. “The Internet is disinhibiting,” Resnick Anderson explains. “Users have the freedom to explore all the things that they don’t necessarily want to use in real life, but that they are interested in looking at and interesting to learn.”
Victoria, 46, says that she has never had sexual relations with a woman and did not even think about it, nevertheless she watches lesbian porn 3-4 times a month, as she says, “for fun”, often with husband. She has a clear idea of what type of women she prefers – not too thin and long hair. “I also like manicured nails,” Victoria admits. However, in real life, she never experienced erotic excitement in the presence of a woman. “Lesbian porn is just fantasy,” she says.
Not everyone is as easy to do. For some, lesbian porn allows them to express a part of their sexual identity that would otherwise be kept under lock and key. For example, Karina at the age of 20 was not at all sure of her orientation. Today she is 40, and she prefers men, but if she met an attractive woman, perhaps Karina would have decided on a sexual experiment with her. Lesbian porn for her is living a possible meeting that did not happen in reality. “I have never tried it, although I often think about it,” says Karina. “But in reality, I am so terribly nervous and embarrassed that it is likely that it will never come to the point.”
