The development of medicine means that many diseases, which in previous centuries, and even years, were considered deadly, can be successfully treated, restoring the health and joy of life to the sick. Unfortunately, despite the excellent condition of medical knowledge and a large group of specialists, cancer is often the cause of death of many people.
This is for many reasons. First of all, it is worth adding that so far there is no universal cure for cancer. In addition, not all forms of cancer are curable. It is worth noting that, according to doctors, one of the most common reasons for failure in cancer therapy is too late a diagnosis and starting treatment when the disease is well developed.
Stomach cancer is one of the most common cancers
Stomach cancer is a cancer that forms in the stomach and originates from the lining of the stomach. In the process of developing the disease, cancer occupies subsequent layers of the digestive system, reducing the chance of a complete cure. According to specialists, this cancer most often takes the form of an adenoma, but other changes that do not fall under the definition of gastric cancer are also often diagnosed. Instead, they are called lymphomas, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, or carcinoid tumors.
Stomach cancer in statistics
Medical statistics report that stomach cancer is the fifth most common type of cancer in the world. In 2012 alone, 952 new cases of the disease were diagnosed worldwide. In the same year, most cases were reported in Russia (000), Germany (21837) and Italy (10081). Poland was ranked eighth with a score of 7549. Statistics also show that a high incidence of gastric cancer is recorded in Eastern Europe and in some Western countries. Gastrointestinal cancers are the least likely to affect people living in Southern Europe (e.g. the Balkan countries) and Northern Europe (Iceland is the pioneer). It is worth noting, however, that part of the South Slavs are countries that are still developing, and medicine in many cases leaves much to be desired, hence unreliable statistical data. At the same time, Southern Europe is an area famous for its healthy, balanced, vegetable and fish diet that improves the overall condition of the body. It should also be remembered that the Scandinavians are considered a very conscious society, and the conditions in which they live (the cleanest areas in Europe) affect good health and well-being.
Risk group
Doctors have noticed that men are mainly at risk because men are diagnosed with stomach cancer twice as often as women. In addition, the age of the patients is not without significance. Patients who see a doctor and are diagnosed with cancer of the digestive system are usually over fifty-five years old. Experts emphasize that the risk of stomach cancer is doubled in people who smoke cigarettes. In addition, the disease is also favored by a diet low in fiber and rich in highly processed foods and red meat. For more information on stomach cancer risk, please visit: >> Stomach Cancer – My Day
Stomach cancer prevention
Stomach cancer prevention is primarily a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet rich in all the ingredients necessary for the proper functioning of the body. It is also important to avoid stimulants, among which smoking is particularly dangerous. In addition, do not forget about regular check-ups with the doctor and examination of the general condition of the body. Any disturbing changes must be consulted with a specialist, because the disease detected early enough can be fully cured. On the other hand, delaying a visit to the doctor for too long can have tragic consequences. It is worth noting that people in the risk group and those with a family history of gastric cancer should pay special attention to regular check-ups.
Cancer is one of the most common diseases in Japan, which is why the country has a special screening program for stomach cancer. Unfortunately, there is no prevention program for this cancer in Europe, so the health of patients is solely in their hands and in their awareness. It is therefore worth taking care of yourself and not being afraid of visiting a doctor, especially in situations where disturbing changes are noticeable or there is an increased risk of stomach cancer.
