Who gets wishes?

Everything that a person wants will certainly come true. And if it doesn’t come true, then there was no desire, and if the wrong thing comes true, the disappointment is only apparent: exactly that came true.

This is Alexander Blok. And here is my grandfather’s favorite anecdote – to make rabbit stew, you need to have at least a hare! I mean, before you start fulfilling a desire or suffering on the topic of its unreality, you need to get your desire. That is, to outline it convexly, in relief, in detail and in maximum detail. And behind each such detail – you can be sure – there is already a ready-made scenario for its materialization – and, as a rule, not so outrageous as it might seem at first.

Among my acquaintances there is not a single person who would not get what he wanted. Among yours too – turn your head and make sure. It’s just that desires may not look so fantastic.

Marina earns money by private lessons, rents a modest apartment in Moscow, and she barely has enough money to live in the capital – without a car, rest by the sea, without a summer house, but with a good education for her daughter. Marina dreamed of her house in nature and even knew how this house should look like – it was drawn in a Swedish children’s book, which Marina read to her little daughter. Village house in the forest. No money. And then, where is Marina – and where is Sweden! As they say, years passed (a couple of years, to be honest).

Marina does not hide her desire – and one day a colleague is found among her acquaintances, whose uncle lives in Sweden and wants to sell something there. Already closer. But still no money. Marina does not get credit – she is a citizen of another country. Then Marina goes to Sweden with this colleague. He gets acquainted, so to speak, with the object of his dreams on the spot. Really just like the picture!

Marina makes a detailed photo report and shows it to her mother – maybe she has a solution? Mom is inspired not so much by the house as by Marina’s passionate desire. She lends her her savings – and a month ago I get photos – a happy company on skis against the backdrop of, frankly, an estate in a fairy forest.

In order for a wish to come true, it is important to imagine the logistics, the path to it. It is not enough to dream of wealth and at the same time draw a pack of banknotes. It’s good to know where it comes from. A career, a wealthy husband, selling an apartment, a lottery, in the end – you just need to focus in an adult way. And this means understanding that “dreams come true” is always associated with a compromise.

Desires are not fulfilled for those who, for their part, are not ready to sacrifice at least something for their sake. Do you know why they marry the same? Because others are afraid of losing their freedom by sharing their space with another. And not because no one takes them.

My manicurist friend Natasha, who worked half her life in the city hairdresser, recently opened up: “If I had been told ten years ago that I would have my own apartment, car and my own office, I would have thought that they were playing me.” But Natasha’s desire for independence was so greedy that she went to the goal, denying herself a lot, and eventually achieved all of the above.

Fifteen years ago, I gave my pianist friend a desk that she had placed in her room with the words “now this is my office” – I went and registered self-employment. She had nothing but a profession and a desire to own the hall. Now it is one of the largest music agencies in Latvia.

Kate Winslet won the starring role of Rose Dawson in Titanic not because she was lucky for no reason. Believe me, she had serious competitors. But it was she who called James Cameron every day with the words “Hi, this is your Rose”, so that he eventually believed in it.

So, the four rules for the fulfillment of desires:

  • Speak your desire in detail.
  • Do not hide it – share it, sooner or later there will be allies and support.
  • Being willing to take risks is, by the way, the only way to check how important it is to you.
  • Don’t retreat!
