The Director of the World Health Organization for Europe, Hans Kluge, announced that the period of the “ceasefire” in the fight against the coronavirus is coming. This is to contribute to, inter alia, high vaccination rate and the end of winter.

According to the BBC, about 12 million new cases of COVID-19 were detected in Europe last week. This is one of the highest scores. However, on the other hand, there has been no significant increase in the number of people requiring intensive inpatient care.

– It is a “ceasefire” that can bring us lasting peace – said Hans Kluge, head of WHO for Europe, quoted by the British station. Among the reasons he cited the high vaccination rate, the milder nature of the Omikron variant and the end of winter.

At the same time, the director of WHO called for Europeans to continue vaccinating. This will allow you to collide much more gently with the next mutations that will surely appear.

Although Kluge described the vaccination rate as high, this is not the case in all countries. In Poland, vaccinated with two doses is approx. 57 percent. people, while in Portugal it is 89 percent and in Germany 74 percent. (data collected by Our World in Data – ed.).

Europe is loosening its restrictions

Some countries have already decided to ease pandemic restrictions. At the beginning of the week, Denmark was the first in Europe to lift restrictions – including on face masks. Sweden announced that it will lift almost all of its restrictions as of February 9.

  2. The treacherous symptoms of Omikron. If you notice them, do a test right away
  3. The world does not believe what Denmark is doing. Infections sharply go up, and they endure restrictions
