Whitening strips: pros and cons

Whitening strips: pros and cons

We will tell you what is good and bad about teeth whitening strips and how to use them correctly to achieve the best results.

Beautiful white teeth have always been and will be in trend. Almost all people dream of just such, but in pursuit of a dream they forget that this procedure is most comfortable and effective only when it completes oral care.

An expert – dentist with a capital letter Natalia Kadkalova told us about the benefits and dangers of whitening strips.

The first rule of a modern patient is to think about health and full-fledged function, because only a healthy body can be beautiful and effective.

The whitening strips are transparent soft polymer plates on which a layer of active substance is applied. Upon contact with enamel, a chemical reaction occurs with the release of oxygen. The fact is that the concentration of peroxide in the strips is insignificant, so there is practically no effect from their use, but there is no harm either.

There are two types of teeth whitening: clinical and home

The whitening strips are designed for home bleaching.

To the advantages of their use, I would attribute their availability, because they are quite convenient for home use and do not require additional materials and caps. They are more affordable than clinical whitening.

The downside is the weak result or lack of it; there are contraindications; difficult fixation, especially on the lower jaw due to saliva. Also, the strips can cause burns if they come into contact with the gums.

On my own behalf, I have tried different types of strips, nothing helped me, and I did not get the desired result. Some of the patients manage to achieve, albeit insignificant, results.

The strips are very good when you need to freshen your teeth in between clinical bleaching. They can be used at intervals of 2 months.

How to use the whitening strips correctly?

  • Before starting the course, it would be nice to consult with your dentist and it is important to do a professional hygiene of the oral cavity. Treat caries, if any, and when the doctor gives the go-ahead, start the course.

  • Dry your teeth from saliva and separate the strip with clean hands.

  • Press the strip tightly to the teeth to the upper and lower rows and withstand the time required according to the instructions. The whitening effect will depend on each stage.

  • After the time has elapsed, as indicated in the instructions, remove the strips from the surface of the teeth and the remains of the gel.

  • Rinse your mouth with water several times.

  • The procedure can be carried out no more than once every two months.
