One of the best examples of Moldovan distillation, which has become its symbol and hallmark, is today produced at 2 factories: in Balti and Chisinau.
In Soviet times, the famous divin, popularly known as cognac, was so popular that it often became the object of falsification, and not only in Moldova.

Brand History
The championship in the production of the legendary brandy belongs to the Balti Wine and Brandy Factory. It was here that in 1978 a trial batch of a branded drink was produced, designed to distinguish Moldovan alcohol from the famous Armenian and Georgian cognacs.
The technology and recipe of the new product were developed by specialists of NPO Ialoveni. The name for the drink was borrowed from an old legend. It says that the storks saved the Moldavians besieged by the Turkish troops from starvation, bringing them grapes in their beaks. This heroic episode turned white-winged birds into a symbol of local winemaking and gave a name to the popular cognac.
In 1979, the industrial production of the ordinary divin “Belîi Aist” was launched, which in subsequent years also began to be produced in Tiraspol, Calarasi and Chisinau. Soon the brand turned into the most recognizable and revered Moldovan brand, taking its rightful place among local wines.
