White Lace (White Lace) is a brand of gin produced by the Russian North Vologda plant. The drink has a classic taste with strong coniferous notes and an affordable price. The brand belongs to the Ukrainian holding Global Spirits, one of the largest manufacturers and distributors in Eastern Europe.
Historical information
The plant for the production of alcoholic beverages in Vologda was founded in 1887 by the Pervushin and Sons trading house. A year later, the company brewed the first batch of beer. Then the assortment was replenished with vodka and liqueurs, which were sold throughout the province. The factory produced alcoholic beverages until 1914, after which it was mothballed in connection with the outbreak of the First World War and the introduction of a ban on alcohol.
The production lines started working only in 1922, at the helm was N. Kiselev, a former manager who had worked under the Pervushins. In 1926, the enterprise was named the Northern Deer State Breeding Plant, and the output was 165 decaliters per year. The plant is known for being the first in Russia to produce beer in metal cans for the exhibition, which was held in Barcelona in 1929. The idea did not receive state support, and it never came to mass production.
The Vologda brewery specialized in low-alcohol drinks until 1994. During this period, privatization took place, as a result, the enterprise was transformed into a joint-stock company “Vagron”. The company relied on the production of strong alcohol, and the share of beer was gradually decreasing. In 2006, the company went bankrupt and the building was put up for auction.
In 2011, the plant was bought out by the Ukrainian alcohol holding Global Spirits. The new owners modernized the enterprise. According to experts, the reconstruction of workshops and new equipment cost the company about $20 million. The enterprise was named “Russian North” and now specializes in the production of strong drinks.
Production features
The factory started producing gin in 2013. At first, the drink was called “Vologda juniper”, later it was renamed White Lace, in translation – “white lace”. The blend consists of aromatic spirits infused with lemon peel, juniper berries, pine buds, coriander and ginger. Over time, the design of the brand also changed – the bottle acquired a non-standard shape, and the label began to resemble the products of well-known gin manufacturers.
Interesting Facts
