Whiskey Robert Burns: history, review of taste and types

Scotch tape dedicated to the poet should be refined and refined. This is exactly what Robert Burns whiskey from the Isle of Arran turned out to be.

It is noteworthy that only the local distillery is entitled to use the portrait and signature of the famous Scottish poet on the labels of their products.

History of the brand

Located in the Firth of Clyde, the Isle of Arran is famous for its unique relief and amazing natural beauty. For the combination of mountainous and flat areas in a compact area, it was even nicknamed “Scotland in miniature.” It was this corner with a special microclimate and clean water that was chosen by the Curry family for the construction of a distillery.

The Isle of Arran Distillers was founded in 1994 near the village of Lokhranza and became the only whiskey company on the island. Her predecessors curtailed their activities at the beginning of the XNUMXth century.

In 1997, in honor of the opening of the guest center, Elizabeth II visited the new distillery, who was presented with two barrels of freshly made drink for her grandchildren Charles and Harry. They are still peacefully “slumbering” in the warehouse.

In 2007, Isle of Arran Distillers won the Scottish Distillery of the Year title.

During its short history, Lochranza Distillery has managed to become the protagonist of several local legends. It is said that during the construction a pair of golden eagles built a nest on its territory, which was taken as a good sign. Therefore, all work was postponed until the moment when the chicks grow up and leave their “father’s house”.

There is also a belief that Robert Burns himself, known not only as a poet, but also as a connoisseur of whiskey, “peeps” into the company’s warehouses in order to “take his share from the angels.”

  2. Fermentation tanks (washbacks) are made from Oregon pine wood.
