Whiskey review Jack Daniels Single barrel

Briefly about the drink

In 1997, Tennessee-based American corn blender Jack Daniel’s decided to break away from established tradition and create a single malt drink on a permanent basis. They became a 47-degree elite distillate six-year-old Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel. In addition to the usual vanilla-caramel-smoky flavor profile that is typical for JD ordinary varieties, the single-barrel version contains well-recognized toffee, spicy and fruity notes.

Whiskey Jack Daniels in detail

Like Gentleman Jack, Single Barrel is subjected to a double carbon filtration, which occurs immediately after distillation and shortly before bottling.

The distillate is aged in barrels continuously under the very roof of the company’s storage facilities.

This circumstance allows containers to more actively contact with the environment, which gives their contents a pronounced individuality.

Features of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Acquisition

After identifying barrels with a suitable distillate, some of them are immediately sold. Their contents are bottled, individually labeled (barrel, rack and storage number plus the year of bottling) and sent to the store shelves, where it can be purchased.

However, there is a more sophisticated way to buy the drink we are interested in, available to both individuals and legal entities.

This is the Single Barrel Personal Collection program. Under this program, any adult individual or legal entity for as little as $10 (plus taxes and extraordinary shipping costs) can become the owner of the contents of a barrel of their choice.

This is done in three ways:

  1. A visit to the JD distillery in Lynchburg and a personal tasting of the contents of several individual containers;

  2. Remote selection based on three samples sent by the company, respectively, with very rich, moderately balanced and sweeter aromas;

  3. The choice made by professional tasters of the distillery, based on preferences specified in advance by the customer.

Further, the content of the selected barrel is bottled (approximately 220-250 containers with a volume of 0,7 or 0,75 liters are obtained), supplied with a certificate signed by the company’s master distiller, and delivered to the buyer. By the way, if the number of bottles exceeds 240 copies, the customer will have to pay a certain amount of greens to the company.

As a bonus, the lucky owner of the Single Barrel party receives a gift set of a crystal decanter and several rocks, an honorable personal copper plate in one of the premises of the distillery museum and a lid from the very one and only barrel in which the previously selected drink was stored. The barrel itself, by the way, can also be bought, but for a fee.

In general, all this is a typical marketing swindle, although the guys from Tennessee, of course, cannot be denied ingenuity.
