History of whiskey Passport Scotch

The recipe for the drink was developed in 1965 by master Jimmy Lang, who later worked on creating blends for Chivas Brothers.

The “heart” of the blend is Speyside single malt spirits, produced at Strathisla and Glen Keith distilleries. The new product was intended for fans of light blended whiskeys and was supplied exclusively for export.

The birth of the Passport brand coincided with the rebellious era of the 60s, marked by a cultural revolution, a reassessment of values and the conquest of space. The spirit of change is reflected in the character of the new drink and its symbolism, placed on the label. Each of the 5 coats of arms conveys a certain meaning: flexibility, freedom, passion for adventure and discovery, fortitude and purity of intentions.

In the 70s, the blend was replenished with new malt ingredients produced at the young distilleries Allt-a-Bhainne and Braes of Glenlivet (modern Braeval). A little later, alcohols distilled at Glenlivet factories and other oldest enterprises began to be used in the blend.

The Glen Keith distillery, which had been supplying components for the popular drink for a long time, was closed at the end of the 2013th century and resumed its work only in XNUMX. After the reconstruction, her sweet floral-fruity spirits again took their place in Passport Scotch.

Since 2001, the brand has been owned by Pernod Ricard.

Whiskey Review Passport Scotch

The unfussy Passport Scotch is perfect for a first introduction to blended Scotch whisky.

  1. Soft, restrained character with a predominance of fruit and malt tones will appeal to beginners and ladies.

  2. The color of the drink is delicate, light golden.

  3. Minimum exposure of components: 5 years.

  4. Strength: 40%.

  5. The aroma is slightly harsh, with accents of grain and apricots.

In a moderately dry, balanced taste, in addition to a pronounced fruity freshness and vanilla sweetness, there are shades of freshly cut grass, marzipan, maple syrup, and a barely perceptible smokiness. Finish: sweet, creamy.

The drink is positioned as an ingredient for cocktails, but it may well be used in its pure form. If desired, the scotch is supplemented with an ice cube, soda, cola, coconut water.
