History of the Monkey Sholder brand

Produces a unique drink company “William Grant and Sons” – one of the oldest Scottish companies specializing in the manufacture of whiskey. From the moment of its foundation in 1886 to the present day, the company has not lost the continuity of generations and retains a family character.

The first Glenfiddich distillery was built by William Grant in 1887 with the support of his numerous sons. After another 5 years, in the face of increasing demand for malt spirits, the second plant “The Balvenie” was opened. Among the youngest distilleries of the company is “Kininvie”, which began its work in 1990. Single malt spirits produced at these three enterprises are the basis of the Monkey Shoulder blend.

Brass monkeys on the bottle symbolize the unity of the components.

Its strange name (translated from English – “monkey’s shoulder”), the drink received from hard workers who were engaged in turning malt at distilleries. Heavy monotonous work with a load on one arm led to an occupational disease – curvature of the shoulder joint.

With Monkey Shoulder, the Grant family set out to honor the common people who dedicated themselves to making “the best whiskey in the valley.”
