While eating the seeds, the idea came to fill them with vodka and insist: I tell you what came out of this experiment

We recently went with friends to the dacha, and not far from my site there is a chic field of sunflowers. While the kebab was roasting, we ran to this sunny paradise, plucked the heads and ate raw seeds, as in childhood. And then my friend says that we are spoiling the gorgeous ingredient for the tincture in vain.

As it turned out, an amazing tincture is being prepared from sunflower seeds. Upon returning to the city, my experienced friend told me how to cook it. The recipe is simple, the cost is low, and the taste is quite unusual.

The story was shared by blog subscriber Svyatoslav.

What ingredients and equipment will be needed

A moonshine still is not required if you want to cook it with purchased vodka. It is enough to have a pan on hand, a large glass jar (ideally a two-liter one), a mortar and ordinary gauze or a bandage for filtering.

For a classic sunflower seed tincture, you need only 2 ingredients – vodka (or moonshine) and the seeds themselves. I will use another secret ingredient – a walnut. Empirically determined that a rich taste is obtained at the following dosages:

  • vodka “Five lakes” – 1 l (bought in “Auchan” for 692 rubles);
  • raw sunflower seeds – 80 gr. (when I don’t have the opportunity to assemble them myself, I order from Ozon, at 58 rubles per pack of 300 gr.);
  • walnuts – 5 pcs. (35 rubles per 100 gr.).

I tried several types of store-bought sunflower seeds, but these, with Ozon, turned out to be the best. Recommend!

For tincture, you need peeled roasted seeds. You can buy already peeled and fried in any supermarket. But I prefer to prepare them myself.

I advise you to do the roasting of the seeds yourself. It is very important that they are not overdried and burnt, because on such a component the tincture will turn out bitter. And what will be under the store packaging is unknown.

The cooking process

I clean the seeds, pour them into a pan, put them on a slow fire and fry until cooked. A very important point – in no case do not pour sunflower oil into the pan! It reacts with alcohol, which has an extremely negative effect on the quality of the finished product.

I pour vodka into a jar, add prepared seeds. Close the jar tightly with a lid, shake. I clean it in a dark warm place, I insist for a week.

Only partitions of walnuts are needed for customization. You can use the kernels as an appetizer for it.

I break the walnuts with a hammer, take out the partitions. I use a mortar and mortar to crush them into a powder. I open the jar, add the powder from the partitions of the nuts, stir. I tightly close the jar again and let it brew for another week. I filter through gauze and taste.

What will be the result

The classic tincture in shade resembles the color of the seeds themselves. The aroma is pleasant, reminiscent of the smell of roasted sunflower seeds. The taste is mainly alcohol with a slight, slightly incomprehensible aftertaste.

This is the tincture obtained after a week of exposure. I specially took this photo to see the similarity of the shade of the drink and the seeds.

After the first sample, it is difficult to guess what the tincture is made of. Especially if you do not see the cooking process. There seems to be a taste, but it’s too light. Vodka interrupts weakly.

The composition is much more interesting with my secret ingredient – walnut partition powder. The color becomes a little darker. There is a pleasant nutty aroma that harmoniously echoes the smell of roasted seeds. The taste is more tart, with a characteristic aftertaste. The vodka itself is no longer felt from the first sips.

I spent 785 rubles to prepare a liter of such an interesting tincture. But there was also a small bonus – the seeds are enough for another 2 servings of tincture, and the nuts are gone for a snack.

How to serve and with what to use

The tincture can be served both at room temperature and chilled. Personally, I keep it in the refrigerator, because the chill adds its own zest.

The beauty of this tincture is that it is quite versatile. Nuts, chocolate, and fruits are suitable as snacks. Pairs well with hard cheeses.

The tincture can also be served with a hearty dinner. Didn’t really like the taste sensations for fish dishes. But under the meat comes with a bang!

It is good to serve the tincture with a classic snack – a slice of black bread and bacon. By the way, pay attention to the color – the walnut makes the drink with a more saturated shade.

I rarely heard from anyone that there is such an exclusive – a tincture of sunflower seeds. Have you tried it and what are your impressions? In my opinion, the classic version is a bit weak, I prefer my impromptu with walnuts. If you have interesting cooking options with other ingredients, please share.
