Protecting baby’s eyes from the sun requires special attention, especially in outdoor activities where the child is not constantly sheltered and regularly has the sun in their eyes. Children’s eyes are very sensitive: the lens – which protects the retina in adults – is not yet mature and before 1 year, 90% of UVA rays and more than 50% of UVB rays cannot be filtered. It is therefore imperative to choose good quality sunglasses. Be careful, scratched lenses no longer protect as effectively from UV rays, so they must be maintained by regularly passing the glasses under cold soapy water and wiping them with a suitable cloth.
