Making homemade juices isn’t always a piece of cake when you don’t have the devices that allow for effortless ingredients. Between classic blenders, modern juicers and all-purpose juicers… it’s not easy to decide.
So how can you be sure you’re making the right choice? Because it is always difficult to remain objective in the face of the commercial arguments which do everything to sell us these devices, I decided to expose you the characteristics of the different juice machines to help you find the right one for you.
How to choose the right juice machine?
I always say it: the choice of the juice machine should not (only) be based on its aesthetics or on the unrealistic promises it displays to attract potential buyers. Your juice maker must meet a few criteria.
First of all, you have to understand that it will not be possible to make a good juice with any device. Indeed, differences will be felt in the quality of the drink, but also in the nutrients it will contain.
I was able to find this video which will explain in detail what you need to know about the main juice machines. It will be useful if you do not have time to read the rest of this article.
So start by determining the type of juice you want to get. You will then be more informed about your needs as well as what you expect from the machine in question. It will also be the best approach to avoid investing in something that you may regret.
A different look on each device
The main difference between the juice machines that you will find on the market is in their aesthetics. Juicers, adopting a vertical appearance, generally include several compartments which facilitate the manufacture of juice.
Juice extractors, for their part, are mostly horizontal. However, I have seen more than one juice extractor model that looks like a juicer. Note also that several platforms classify them among extractors, in order to “confuse” buyers.
For beginners, it will therefore be difficult to tell the difference between the two models. The differences are however significant, and can be seen in the technical data sheet of these devices.
The blender, finally, offers an aspect that is no longer foreign to fans of kitchen machines. Usually lighter and less compact than an extractor, the blender is distinguished by its elongated appearance and the possibility of finding declined models.
Opposing technologies
Knowing the technologies integrated in the various juice machines available on the market is an asset in making a choice. For me, this is undoubtedly the criterion that will have the greatest importance, because it allows to determine in advance the nutritional values that you will keep in your drinks.
On another level, it will also let you know whether or not making juice will save you time.
The centrifuge, aggressive but efficient
For the centrifuge, the technology used is the centrifugal force which will crush the food in order to transform it completely into juice. The strength of this device is to process all the ingredients, and therefore not to separate their fibers from the juice.
I really like the way this machine works, which preserves the fibers without them being heavy. I note, however, that the juicer is known to drastically reduce the nutritional content of fruits and vegetables.
The reason is simple: the centrifugal force works with a very high rotation per minute. Moreover, its power is not to reverse the process. You will have understood it: the juicer will therefore “kill” a large part of the nutrients in the ingredients you are going to use.
The rotation speed of over 10.000 revolutions per minute will heat up fruits and vegetables that cannot stand this change and will consider them to be aggression. Their processing in this machine will make a noticeable difference to their nutritional property.

The juice extractor, a simple and efficient technology
I now move on to the juice extractor, which shreds the ingredients used. This juice machine will act to separate the fibers of your food from their juice. The process takes place at a low speed, and is therefore slower than with a centrifuge.
If the extraction can be longer, it will have the advantage of retaining a good part of the nutrients. On this device, the juice will be made using cold pressing. Even if the ingredients are put to the test, they are only slightly attacked.
A juice extractor registers a rotation speed of less than 100 revolutions per minute. It is 100 times less important than on a conventional centrifuge. The fragility of food is widely respected, and even allows the reuse of dry pulp if you do not hesitate to consume them.

The blender, useful for several ingredients
Finally, as regards the blender, the technology used is substantially equivalent to that of the centrifuge. Instead of shredding food, it will mix it without separating its main components.
This device will therefore be just as likely to denature the nutrients in your favorite ingredients. Even more: the variable speed of the blender will be able to completely eliminate the advantages of your fruits and vegetables.

What about the performance of juice machines?
The performance of juice machines is a problem in its own right that I strongly recommend that you take into account before opting for one model or another. How to define this yield?
Quite simply, it is the machine’s ability to extract the maximum amount of juice from the ingredients used. It will be mainly defined by the number of screws or blades that will be integrated into the device. I point out that engine power also has a role to play.
Apart from the number of rotations, the engine is also the point that you should consider carefully so as not to be mistaken about the criteria that will really make the difference. Indeed, it will be he who will act to activate the elements that will process the ingredients.
At first I thought this setting was only superficial. Big mistake! Remember that a powerful and robust motor will be the first guarantee of an easier extraction. Okay, you might say, but how can you be sure you find a juice machine with good power?
How to define a good return?
The answer is simple, because an appliance with a good performance will be the one with the best dried residues. Based on this criterion alone, it is legitimate to think that the centrifuge and the blender do not have the performance qualities necessary to satisfy household use.
I used to think the same thing, until I realized that in these two cases, the yield is deduced above all from the capacity of the machine to completely grind the ingredients before removing the maximum amount of drink from them.
The blender, however, remains a special case, as it is known to leave more or less large chunks of untreated ingredients. The blender is indeed the one that will draw the least juice from a fruit, acting only to grind them.
Why are the returns different?
These three devices will not logically have the same performance, but the latter will also vary depending on the models you choose. On the market, the most expensive devices are usually the ones with the best performance.
However, it is still possible to find juice machines with a very good performance in the entry-level and mid-range. Whatever investment you put on this machine, it will pay off easily, because a machine with an efficient yield will allow you to use a minimum of ingredients to obtain a maximum of juice.
In the following video, you will understand a little more how these 3 devices work. You will also be able to see the performance of these machines:
The multifunction aspect
Did you know that a juice machine can hide several others? For some time now, I have noticed that more and more of these devices integrate additional functions. I’ll start with blenders, which have been making our lives easier for a while now.
Depending on the model, it is indeed possible to use them to:
- Purees
- Oilseed butters
- Or just to crush nuts
Reviews of their effectiveness are mixed, but I can safely say that the blender is rather convenient.
The centrifuge, for its part, is often found as a function in devices with multiple functions. Most of these food processors can be used as a juicer as well as making whipped cream, rapping vegetables or kneading bread dough.
As to juice extractors, there are models that will allow you to:
- Make homemade spaghetti or noodles
- Make vegetable milks
- Make sorbets
- Bake rice cakes.
On this site, you will find more details about the advantages and possible uses of these multifunction robots. You will find that the multi-feature versions of these devices are good options if you are looking for something really efficient.

The practicality of a juice machine
Like most buyers who are concerned with effectively choosing which juice machine to invest in, I should always educate myself on the practicality of a device before considering purchasing it.
In the case of a juice machine, this criterion is all the more important as it is based on many points:
- The possibility of detaching elements, which will allow you to see if the device requires special handling, and if it is intuitive enough to be understood by most users.
This criterion will not be present on all juice machines, even if it is very likely to benefit from it on the 3 types of devices that interest you. It will also have an impact on the ease of storage of the food processor.
- Ease of cleaning the device, which will save time, and which should allow the appliance to be placed in a dishwasher. A inefficient machine will not be compatible with a dishwasher, and will at the same time be difficult to clean by hand without a suitable accessory.
- Ease of maintenance over the long term, which will determine if your juice machine can withstand harsh foods such as lemon juice.
The latter having the gift of quickly rusting the most fragile compositions, it may present a problem if it comes into contact with the oxidizable elements of a blender or a centrifuge.
- Its ability to support raw products, determined in part by the size of the appliance chimney, it will allow you to use unprepared products.
This criterion can once again be the weak point of a classic blender which will have difficulty in effectively processing hard foods, large in size, or having a small chimney size.
- The time required for processing the ingredients, whether it is on the production of juice or on specific recipes. This duration is generally determined by the speed of rotation of the apparatus, the power of its motor, and its ability to deal with the elements that are less easy to deal with.
Processing speed will vary widely from one juicer to another. On a centrifuge, it will only take a few seconds, while an extractor may take a few minutes to do an equivalent job.
As for the blender, its speed of activity is generally between these 2 devices, making it an all-purpose robot that should satisfy the great undecided.
- The noise is the last criterion that we do not necessarily think about, but which will have an impact on the comfort of use. Once again, the extractor will be the one which will make the least noise, since it only registers a low speed of rotation.
For juicers and blenders, noise can be an inconvenience to be reckoned with.
What you must remember
To sum up, I can tell you that the choice of juice machine really depends on individual tastes and needs. Do you think you got any interesting details in this article? I invite you to speak up if you have any questions.
Remember that the choice of your device will still require that you keep some of these elements in mind so as not to regret your investment!
