Which juice is best suited to cognac and how to quickly determine the correct proportion

I bought a bottle of cognac over the weekend. I decided with my wife to sit in front of the TV with a glass of this drink. But my wife doesn’t like cognac, so I decided to have a cocktail party.

I bought several types of juice and all evening surprised my wife with new combinations. Today I will share with you my knowledge about golden alcohol and juice mixes.

What juice can I mix cognac with

Connoisseurs know that a strong alcoholic drink called cognac (cognac) is made from grape juice using a special technology.

Therefore, cognac spirits are unusually aromatic and rich in taste. The French have consolidated the tradition of drinking cognac as a digestif in combination with three “C”s: chocolat, cafe, cigare (chocolate, coffee, cigar).

But time has made its own adjustments and all over the world, more and more often, cognac is the main component of another “C”: cocktail – a cocktail, a drink obtained by mixing several components.

If you are still wondering if it would be blasphemy to mix long-aged cognac with plain juice? Then listen to the opinion of an expert. After all, Maurice Richard Hennessy himself is not averse to tasting a cocktail based on a skate and freshly squeezed orange juice.

Noble alcohol can also be shaded and diversified with other juices, such as:

  • apple;
  • cherry;
  • pomegranate;
  • apricot;
  • grape;
  • crimson;
  • citric.

And these are only traditional juices for our latitudes. But there are also exotic ones – mango, banana, pineapple, grapefruit, and finally, lime.

If you have excellent cognac in your arsenal, then by showing imagination, you can please everyone: fans of the classics and those who are thirsty for novelty. The beauty is that every time the substance of the required strength is obtained with new flavor notes.

What juices are not recommended to mix cognac with?

To find the perfect combination, you need to experiment, because the perception of taste is always individual. The proverb that there are no comrades for the taste and color is still relevant.

Probably, you should not mix cognac only with fresh juice from a mix of vegetables, such as beets, celery, carrots or pumpkin. Although there are lovers of the Bloody Mary cocktail made with cognac and tomato juice.

One thing can be said unequivocally, you should not spoil exquisite alcohol with packaged juice containing artificial additives and preservatives. Ideally, if it is a freshly squeezed product.

How to correctly determine the proportions of juice and cognac in a cocktail

If there are only two components in the basis of a cocktail: good cognac and fruit juice, then it is very easy to calculate the proportions.

If you want to get a fragrant, moderately strong long drink, add 2-3-4 parts of your preferred juice to one part of cognac. It is clear that the less juice, the higher the strength of the drink. And vice versa.

If you prefer shots (one-sip cocktails), then it is better to take 1 part cognac and 1 part juice.

When making a cocktail for the first time, trust a proven recipe. And you can always make adjustments!

  • pomegranate juice – 30 ml;
  • crushed ice.

All ingredients must be mixed and ready.

On a cold winter evening, for a friendly party, you can prepare an interesting drink that warms your body and soul – “Apple Punch” according to this recipe:

I also love another cocktail bearing the proud name “Alexander”. It is prepared on the basis of cherry juice. To prepare it, you will need 30 ml of cognac, cherry juice and cream, 10 ml of sugar syrup. Mix all the ingredients and fill the cocktail glass on a thin high leg.

To start the feast, I recommend a light cocktail with a delicate delicate aroma that successfully combines cognac and lime juice.
