Which hair removal method to choose?
If there are new trends in hair removal, all techniques, even the most ancestral, are used. In a salon or at home, find here the hair removal technique (s) that will suit you best for each area. What are the safest techniques for bikini waxing? How to pluck your eyebrows?
Cold wax: for sensitive areas
Cold waxing is a very popular hair removal technique because it is easy to do at home. It comes in the form of ready-to-use strips that can be used on all areas.
This has several advantages. On the one hand, there is nothing to prepare. On the other hand, there is no risk of burning or seeing the wax flow. For bikini waxing, where the skin is very thin, this is one of the best techniques to be able to do it at home. Even to get the famous metro ticket.
The depilation of the bikini line for men is also practiced in this way. But, for the first time, an appointment in a beauty salon is recommended.
Drawbacks
However, it has drawbacks, in particular for the armpits. On this area, which is not really flat, the cold wax strips are sometimes difficult to place. In addition, if it does not adhere well, the hairs are more pulled out than really pulled out from the bulb.
Hot wax: the most effective
Hot wax is the most effective hair removal technique. Well applied, it withdraws each hair from its bulb. It is not for nothing that it has always been used in beauty institutes. And it is for this same reason that it is especially intended for professionals or those who are used to it.
If you are thinking about having full bikini waxing, for example, an appointment with a beautician is essential. The result will be clear and you will thus avoid burns and other intimate discomforts.
Keep in mind, however, that full bikini waxing is not without risks. Pubic hair has a protective role against small infections.
For other areas, it is nevertheless possible to do it at home. Either with a pot that must be put in the microwave, or with applicators that must also be heated.
You can also use oriental wax, made from sugar. It can also be homemade. This wax is also warmer.
Drawbacks
Even though the latest products limit its shortcomings, hot wax still tends to flow, stick and even, at times, become unusable.
On the armpits or the bikini line, the risk of burns is also greater due to the thinness of the skin.
If you have blood circulation problems, hot wax is also strongly discouraged.
The electric epilator
The first electric epilators did not shine by their effectiveness on sensitive areas. Today, almost all of them have different heads, including one for the armpits or the bikini line. The hair is well extracted from the root.
However, it remains a more painful method than waxing, which has the advantage of only hurting a few seconds. Although with an epilator, as with wax, the hair becomes thinner over time, and epilation less painful.
In any case, for a first try, prefer to do it on the legs.
Razor and depilatory cream
Preferred technique for women in a hurry and for touch-ups, the razor has many drawbacks. On the one hand, the hair is cut at the base of the skin. On the other hand, this clean cut has the effect of invigorating the hair.
Then, of course, it only takes a few days for it to grow back. However, for the legs and armpits, if you do it properly, in the shower with an emollient shower gel or foam, this is not a problem. But hydrate your skin well afterwards.
It will be necessary to start again often but if you do not have a significant amount of hair, it is a method like any other.
Likewise, for the depilatory cream which kills the hair in a chemical way, the regrowth is fast, although a little less than the razor. However, do not use it on the bikini line, the product must not come into contact with the mucous membranes.
Eyebrow waxing
For the eyebrows, there are several ways to do this. At home, it is better to use the tweezers and avoid removing too much. Indeed, the eyebrows really structure the face.
In the institute, you can benefit from waxing, especially if you have hair on the central area. Or you can experiment with hair removal, a technique less painful than the tweezers and very precise.
Pulsed light or permanent laser hair removal
For long-lasting or permanent hair removal, there are two techniques for all areas of the body.
- The pulsed light technique practiced in institute or at home.
It will be more effective if you have white skin and brown hair. The flash sends heat to the hair and destroys it.
It sometimes takes about ten sessions to achieve a final result, which is not always the case. For the armpits, it could cost you around 400 €; 500 € for the jersey; and more than 1000 € for the legs. But health professionals do not approve of the use of this technique without medical supervision, because of the risk of burns. The same is true for commercially available devices which are, however, less powerful.
- The laser technique, only at a dermatologist or clinic.
It takes about 5 to 6 sessions, spaced 6 weeks each time, to achieve a definitive result. The price is around 1800 to 2000 €. An investment but which should be compared with the cost of regular hair removal.
