Most medications should be prescribed by a doctor, but there are ailments in which we try to deal with ourselves, for example, with a cold. There are over-the-counter drugs available in pharmacies, but before buying, read carefully what you should be taking. In a situation where we are not able to cope with the disease, of course, you should see a doctor.

In a situation when a cough begins to bother us, we most often reach for the medicines in our home medicine cabinet first. However, it should be remembered that not all ailments are able to heal ourselves, for example, a cough may be wet or dry, sometimes it is difficult to distinguish them, so in case of acute symptoms, you should consult your family doctor.

Cough syrups

In pharmacies, there are syrups, cough pills, over-the-counter available, whose task is not only to bring relief from ailments, but also to protect our body against complications and further infection. When choosing a syrup, you should know what type of cough you are dealing with. In medicine, there are two main types of cough:

  1. wet cough, in which, in addition to the cough reflex, there are also discharge and expectoration. Expectorant syrup will be a very good solution in wet cough.
  2. dry cough is a cough in which there is no expectoration reflex and no discharge is produced. In this case, it is recommended to use dry cough syrup.

In some infections, the cough changes its form into a mixed cough, a condition that should be diagnosed by a doctor because the patient is not able to determine which agent, expectorant syrup or dry cough syrup should be taken at any given time.

Both for dry and wet cough you can use Cough – a herbal mixture for children, which you can buy at Medonet Market at a promotional price.

A wet or expectorant cough is the most common symptom of a cold. Regardless of whether we treat ourselves or are led by a doctor, wet cough is a condition that cannot be underestimated, because the residual discharge can lead to bronchitis and even pneumonia. That is why an expectorant syrup is such an important element in the treatment, which should facilitate the expectoration of secretions. Expectorant syrup will be prescribed to the patient after visiting a doctor who should auscultate the patient carefully, but there are also other measures that can provide relief from this type of cough:

  1. anise fruit
  2. licorice root
  3. herbal teas
  4. reconstituting tablets, for example tablets of emia salt

The best solution should be an expectorant syrup, or otherwise, a wet cough syrup, because it not only thins the secretion, but above all makes it much easier to expectorate and remove it from the throat. As expectorant syrup must increase the production of secretions, the last dose should not be taken in the late afternoon. Expectorant syrup can come in several forms:

  1. expectorant syrup with carbocysteine
  2. expectorant syrup with zbroxol
  3. expectorant syrup with bromhexine

There are also syrups available for sale, which act as expectorant syrup, but their main ingredients are herbs:

  1. common ivy
  2. medicinal primrose
  3. common thyme

Expectorant syrup should not be used by pregnant women and breastfeeding women. There are homeopathic syrups on the market, but they are not recognized by everyone, so in the case of wet cough, it is recommended for pregnant women to use home-made remedies, for example, onion syrup or raspberry juice.

At Medonet Market you can buy syrups based on natural plant extracts by Herbapol. Try, among others:

  1. Mullein syrup with vitamin C,
  2. Wild mallow syrup with vitamin C,
  3. Pine syrup with vitamin C,
  4. Marshmallow syrup with vitamin C,
  5. Thyme syrup and coltsfoot,
  6. Lilac flower syrup with vitamin C,
  7. PNEUMOPOL syrup with elderberry,
  8. Thyme syrup with vitamin C,
  9. Plantain syrup with vitamin C,
  10. Icelandic lichen and lilac syrup.

In addition to cough syrups, you can also use herbal teas, e.g. based on licorice, which has an expectorant effect and soothes cough. We recommend Pukka Three Licorice – licorice tea.
