😉 Greetings to everyone who came to this site! Friends, should you give alms to the poor? According to the results of the survey, 40% – submit, and I respect them. In Russia, it was a sacred deed to give to the one asking, but in our time, those who ask began to deceive more often.
I live in Taganrog, the city where Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was born and lived. Recently I was walking down the street, a man came up to me and asked: “Hey, give me money for travel! I was robbed and I didn’t eat for three days. ” Do not be surprised, but my answer was a refusal.
The man was probably lying. How can you get to begging? Judge for yourself: a man of 40-45 years old, with a height of 180, arms and legs in place, does not look like a drinker. He pesters passers-by and begs for change … But what about honor and dignity? But what about politeness and “please”?
There are situations when a person is left without money in an unfamiliar city. But you can find a way out, especially in summer! “I haven’t eaten for three days” – I don’t believe it!
There are many different cafes around and there you can always negotiate with the staff. Or in another establishment to do some work (rearrange the boxes, sweep the territory …) for a bowl of soup. In the summer they are invited to work in the fields to harvest.
There are many options for temporary and seasonal work. Another option is to work at a monastery or church. No one has been expelled from there for hundreds of years.
What is charity
Alms (alms) is a voluntary donation of personal money, food, clothing to the poor or poor people. Helping those in need.
Some people find it easier to ask than to work. I always refuse drunk and arrogant without remorse. Not applicable to those who beg for money on public transport and at train stations. I don’t give it to people who are young, outwardly healthy and quite able-bodied. I don’t serve the gypsies in the market, who do not ask, but persistently demand money.
I remember in the 90s the doorbell rang. Opened it. On the doorstep a gypsy woman: “Serve for bread, there is absolutely nothing to eat …”
I, naive, understanding what was said in the literal sense, bring her the freshest sliced loaf and three apples: “Here. Take it please..”. And later, leaving the house, I saw my loaf and apples on the floor in the entrance. This incident taught me a lot.
Frankly, I don’t often give alms. But I do. More often I help those who do not ask, but really need something .. I cannot refuse the helpless old people who patiently stand aside from the human streams. They gave all their strength, all their life to the country. And now, like a squeezed lemon, neither children nor the state need them.
How to give charity properly
There are even rules on how and where to give alms. You can serve if the beggars are sitting:
- At the entrance to the temple, chapel, near the holy springs and holy places; at the entrance to the bazaar; At the stop; at the entrance to the hotel.
- Moreover, there is a golden rule: it is always given at the exit, nothing at the entrance.
Advice from Vanga: Never give the beggars the money you were given for change after buying bread or salt. Otherwise, you yourself risk falling into poverty. Also, do not give the last little thing left in your wallet.
The Lord calls us believers to be responsible stewards of the resources He gives us. But what does this mean in practice, in everyday life – does everyone decide for themselves whether to give alms?
“Lord, give me wisdom when I see a person asking for help! And if it happens to be a mistake, then let it be a mistake in generosity, and not in stinginess. “
