An alternative to traditional Christmas trees has appeared in Rostov.

During the New Year holidays, children have enough things to do: decorate the Christmas tree, help their parents, come up with and receive the perfect gift and have a good rest. But no less important is the intellectual component – so that it is both fun and informative.

The Smart Rostov project will help you to correctly plan your days off from lessons: on December 26, it launches the Scientific New Year program developed at Moscow State University. This is an exciting cocktail from the science lab and an exciting quest!

The program involves 60 children at the same time, who are divided into four teams of 12-15 people. And to make children more comfortable in a small team, groups are formed for two age categories – 7-9 years old and 10-14 years old.

Each group is tested in four laboratories of great scientists. In them, the guys will have to create the missing parts of the broken “measurement machine” and reveal the secret that unites these scientists. And all this in order to save Santa Claus – he was taken away in an unknown direction by a mysterious taxi driver.

Serious experiments in chemistry, physics and biology, on which the journey is built, are adapted for children’s perception. The guys will have to establish or deny the existence of a griffin, unicorn, Loch Ness monster and saber-toothed herring, fix a complex machine and even reveal some incredible secrets!

“A program just for a child?” – you ask. But no! An important part of the Scientific New Year is devoted to parents. Although they have grown up, they should not be bored while waiting for children. While the younger generation is keen on playing with the hosts of “Smart Rostov” (not traditional animators, but students and graduates of SFedU and Rostov State Medical University), adults will also have fun. A New Year’s lecture-quiz awaits them. The presenter will help you understand the scientific results of the year. The list of topics includes gravitational waves, bitcoins, and even genome editing. It will definitely not be difficult – it will be interesting.

At the end of the event, every young scientist who saved Santa Claus thanks to his new knowledge will receive a secret gift. We will not tell what exactly, but we will hint – it is big and interesting, not sweet, and it can also keep the child busy for almost the entire vacation.

Where and when does the Scientific New Year take place? From 26 to 29 December and from 3 to 5 January on the territory of the Don State Public Library (Pushkinskaya St., 175a). You can find out more and buy tickets for the show here.
