Where should the icons be in the house?

“The most important thing is to put the icons in a proper place, in one that you will treat with reverence. Where there is no TV and other distractions from prayer. Arrange a red corner there: put a shelf, better, of course, a large one. But if for some reason you do not want to advertise your faith or you just do not want to arrange a red corner, then the icons can be put on a separate shelf in the closet. There are no strict prescriptions on this score, it is only important to pray piously before them.

If you choose a room, then you should give preference to a living room or an office. It is also possible to hang icons in the kitchen, but this is not a very convenient place for prayer, because in the kitchen there is constant fuss over cooking. It is not recommended to hang icons in the bathroom and toilet for the same reasons. However, if for some reason you want to see icons in every separate space of your home (for example, you are afraid of a confined space, or it’s so easy for you to accept water procedures), then for God’s sake, hang up. Your attitude is most important here.

If we talk about some traditions, then every family after the wedding is supposed to keep the icons of the Savior and the Mother of God. There is also a pious tradition to have icons of your saints, those whose name you bear. In the church, if you stand facing the altar, on the left is the icon of the Mother of God, on the right is Jesus Christ. This can be applied at home, but not necessary. There is no Orthodox Feng Shui – put it as you like!

Next to the icons, you can place an icon lamp, candles, a bottle of holy water, a pussy willow, a cross, crosses, figurines of angels, a Bible, a prayer book, as well as any such items related to faith. You can also put a photo of the dead and living relatives; the main thing is to pray for them, not for them (unless they become saints). “
