Where it is impossible to store red wine in an apartment

Some people believe that if you take wine off the shelf in an air-conditioned store and put it in the kitchen, it will have the ideal – because it’s room – temperature. But in reality, there is nothing worse for the preservation of wine.

Yes, some manufacturers indicate on their labels that wine should be kept at room temperature. But this “room” temperature, in question, is 17-18 degrees Celsius, and after all, our houses are usually much hotter. Especially during the summer heat or heating season. But even if it is not so hot in the bedrooms, in the kitchen, where wine is usually stored, the temperature due to the food being prepared is often higher. In such conditions, the wine ages quickly, alcoholic notes appear in it. Also, too high a temperature accelerates the aging process of the wine and leads to oxidation.

And one more minus of the kitchen – temperature changes are frequent in it: either frying, then baking, or even a draft. From such temperature fluctuations the wine “gets tired”, loses its vitality, the taste and aromatics are destroyed.

Where to store wine in the apartment

  • Pantry. It’s dark and there is no heating.
  • Space under the stairs. They are equipped with two-level apartments. There is also no bright long-term lighting and is often cooler than in residential areas.
  • In a dedicated wine cabinet. This option is suitable for connoisseurs of good wine. If the number of bottles has exceeded 20, maybe you should think about purchasing it? Then your supplies will be kept at the optimum temperature and humidity.

All of the above is valid if the wine is stored in your apartment for a long time. For a short stay, choose a place in the apartment where there is no direct sunlight and the constant influence of a heat source.

Where not to store wine

This place is a refrigerator. First of all, because in the cold the natural processes in wine are suspended. But wine is a living drink. And secondly, the wine absorbs all the smells of the refrigerator. Yes, they are quite capable of seeping through the cork and ruining the delicate scent hopelessly.

Only a opened bottle can be stored in the refrigerator. Red wines will not spoil until 2-3 days, and the denser and richer the drink, the slower it opens and the longer it is stored.

Recall that earlier we talked about how red wine lovers differ from those who love white, and also advised how to choose wine according to the sign of the zodiac.
