The new coronavirus mutation, which has been dubbed the Omicron, has caused a lot of confusion around the world. There is a risk that the variant is more infectious and spreads faster. This prompted many countries to tighten the restrictions. So far, Omikron has not been detected in Poland, but cases of infections have already been recorded in many European countries. Where has the new variant already arrived?

Andrea Ammon, head of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), said on Tuesday that 42 patients had so far confirmed Omicron infection in the European Union. The good news is that patients are mildly infected and the course is “mild or asymptomatic”.

Ammon added that there are likely also six new cases in the EU that are currently being analyzed.

The new mutation first appeared in southern Africa. Since then, cases have been detected in more than 20 countries.
