Only the lazy did not complain about the demographic situation in the country: the birth rate is steadily falling. Government measures to support families with children are not particularly helpful, and Dmitry Peskov even stated that there is simply no one to give birth in Russia – there are too few women. At a research agency
We managed to interview 2640 people from 22 large cities in Russia. All respondents are people between the ages of 18 and 42. Each was asked to answer three questions: are there children, is there a regular partner or spouse, are they planning to have a baby in the next 10 years. Regardless of the answer to the last question, they were asked to explain their decision.
As it turned out, 64% of the men in the sample do not intend to have children in the next decade. As well as 38% of women. And all because they just … do not want to. 36% of those who do not want children said they want to live for themselves. For 23%, the obstacle was the absence of a permanent partner or spouse. Another 18% referred to the housing issue, 13% – to the desire to build a career, and another 9% said they did not see the opportunity to have children due to the unstable financial situation. And only 1% of the interviewed respondents explained that it is all about the state of health. That is, ordinary selfishness is to blame.
As for the childfree cities, Moscow is predictably in the first place in the ranking: the city of careerists.
