Where and how to store olive oil after opening

Olive oil has wonderful properties, unusual taste and pleasant aroma. However, if stored improperly, little of the benefits and taste remains. How to store olive oil to enjoy the product for a long time?

Once the bottle of olive oil is opened, it is important to consume the product as soon as possible. The fresher it is, the tastier it will be. It is equally important to create optimal storage conditions and always respect them. Olive, or Provencal, oil is afraid of cold, heat, hot rays of the sun, and air.

How to store olive oil after opening? The rules are as follows:

– close the bottle as tightly as possible, avoiding prolonged contact with air;

– keep away from sunlight, oven, gas or electric stove;

– avoid hypothermia and overheating.

The optimum temperature for preserving the aromatic contents of the bottle is from 12 to 25 ° C. If it is lower, the oil will give a plentiful sediment, if it is higher, it will deteriorate. It is advisable to buy the product in a small container in order to use it as quickly as possible. The smaller the bottle, the less chance of its contents going rancid.

This does not mean that oil bought in a large container will necessarily disappear. It can be poured into a small bottle, and the bulk of the oil is well sealed and kept in a cool, dark place away from the sun and household heating appliances. Then it remains only to top up from a larger container to a smaller one as needed.

Bottles made of dark thick glass or porcelain are ideal for long-term preservation of all the flavor and health benefits of olive oil. They will reliably protect both from the sun and foreign odors. It is no coincidence that in such a container, before opening, natural perishable oil retains its wonderful properties for up to 3 years. But even the opened package is able to preserve the freshness and pleasant taste of the product for a long time if all other conditions are met.

If the oil is poured into cans, this is also not bad: the product is stored in them for at least a year. Another thing is that such a container is intended for oil of not the highest class. Nevertheless, its quality is satisfactory. It is inconvenient to use tin containers, so you can pour the oil into a glass bottle and seal the jar tightly.

Natural olive oil is very healthy and tasty, but, unfortunately, it quickly deteriorates. Proper storage will help prolong his life.

While refrigeration is preferable for perishable food, this is not the case with olive oil. From the cold it will become cloudy, a precipitate will appear. If you return the bottle to the room, the product will restore transparency, but the taste will be spoiled.

Experienced housewives clean olive oil in a kitchen cabinet with opaque doors, located away from heat sources. This is an ideal place: dry, not hot, the sun’s rays do not penetrate. After each use, put the bottle in the closet and not leave it next to the stove or oven. From temperature changes, the product will quickly turn rancid.

In order not to throw away olive oil, which is expensive in comparison with sunflower oil, you just need to create suitable conditions for its storage. Follow the guidelines in this article and it should be enough to get the benefits of this valuable product for as long as possible.
