Another lockdown? Reason: the daily number of cases per 100 residents

«When introducing further restrictions, we take into account the average daily number of coronavirus cases per 100. inhabitants »- this is the answer we received from the Ministry of Health. So what does this data look like?

On Thursday, the number of new COVID-19 cases was 27. This is the highest number of cases since last November. On this day, the indicator showing the 7-day average of infections in Poland per 100 thousand. for the first time in a long time, it exceeded 50.

On Friday, the Ministry of Health reported 25 infections. This made the average daily number of cases per 998. of inhabitants in the last 100 days is already 7.

Let us recall that the government introduced the first restrictions this year in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie and Pomorskie voivodeships after this indicator for these regions was 45 and 44,6 infected, respectively.

“However, this is not the only criterion that we take into account when deciding to introduce restrictions” – we read in the message from the Ministry of Health.

What else is taken into account?

Another lockdown? The reason: the dynamics of infections

“We are also observing the dynamics of increases in infections,” informs the Communication Office of the Ministry of Health.

Friday’s figures on new coronavirus infections say 25 new cases. That’s a lot, much more than a week ago, when there were 998 cases. So the dynamics is dangerously high.

«Today 25 new cases, or +998 percent. compared to the previous week. We are constantly accelerating – the 38-day average weekly shift up to 7% » – wrote on Twitter Michał Rogalski, analyst, author of the Internet database “COVID-43 in Poland”, who tracks, records and analyzes the figures on the epidemic in Poland.

The Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, also informed about the high dynamics a few days ago. He compared the data for this and last week, writing: the third wave is accelerating.

Another lockdown? Reason: British variant involved

“Equally important is information such as the share of the British variant of the virus, which now amounts to 50% in Poland, and this is associated with faster transmission of the virus. We are also observing the dynamics of the increase in infections »- we read in the further part of the e-mail from the Ministry of Health.

A few hours after receiving the message, the spokesman for the ministry, Wojciech Andrusiewicz, provided even more recent data: – According to the latest data, the British coronavirus mutation is responsible for over 60 percent. infections, he said. He added that experts who deal with mutations “have no doubts – we are heading towards 80 percent.

Therefore, official data say about 60 percent. the share of the British variant of the virus nationwide, but there are regions where this percentage is much higher. In Wielkopolska, the share of variant B.1.1.7 is already 90%, and in the northern regions of Poland – 80-90%.

Such a scale was reported, among others, by prof. Krzysztof Pyrć, one of the best specialists in the country for monitoring changes in the COVID-19 incidence structure on an ongoing basis.

Another lockdown? Reason: number of occupied beds and respirators

“From the very beginning of the epidemic, we also emphasize that a very important criterion that proves the state of the epidemic is the number of occupied beds and ventilators for COVID-19 patients, which we are constantly monitoring” – informs the Ministry of Health.

  1. Record number of seized respirators in Poland.

Unfortunately, the data on the latter factor are also very worrying. On Wednesday, 2193 ventilators were seized, the worst record since the start of the pandemic. The latest information from the Ministry of Health on Friday, March 19, already indicates 2245 occupied ventilators.

It is no better when it comes to occupied beds. According to the latest data, 19 people are currently hospitalized due to COVID-22. This is not the highest result since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic (over 23), but we are getting dangerously close to it.

“Only the combination of disturbing information from these several sources causes that decisions on further restrictions are made. If we did not introduce more categorical restrictions now, it would be difficult to put a dam on the fast transmission of the virus, which we are dealing with during this third wave of the epidemic ”- explains the Ministry of Health.

So we combined the data indicated by the Ministry of Health. The situation does not give rise to optimism. So we call for caution: let’s wear masks, follow the rules of social distancing, let’s wash our hands, let’s ventilate the room. And of course, let’s get vaccinated. As soon as possible.
