When to transplant strawberries in autumn: which month is better
Strawberries cannot bear fruit growing in one place. The plant must be rejuvenated by transplanting every few years. Only then will the berries ripen on it.
In which month to transplant strawberries in the fall, when they take root
It is worth transplanting strawberries in September, when the soil is moistened and warm enough. The roots will have time to get stronger and prepare for the cold weather. Overgrown foliage will hide the bushes from snow and frost. November is the month when you should not transplant strawberries in the fall. The plant may die.
Seedlings should be replanted immediately after they have been dug out of the soil. Digging is done with two shovels from different sides of the bush. For transplanting, rosettes of biennial bushes are suitable, bringing tasty and large berries. They will bear fruit abundantly. For feeding, it is recommended to use:
- nettle infusion – add fermented nettle in a volume of 2 liters to a bucket of water for irrigation;
- ash – pour a small handful under each bush;
- mustard, seeded and cut in the rows of strawberries, to repel pests.
Planting holes should be small and shallow. The distance between them is about 30 cm. Watering completes the transplant.
When and how is it better to transplant strawberries in the fall?
It is better to transplant strawberries on a cloudy and cool day. Bright sunlight interferes with the absorption of moisture by the roots of the plant and dries out the leaves. A grid that scatters light will help the bushes take root.
The sunny south-western side of the slope will be a favorable place for the garden. The soil should be dug up and watered in advance, weeds should be removed. May beetles are the main threat to the plant in autumn. Before planting, you need to make sure that the soil is not infested with their larvae. During the dry season, capsule watering will help to moisten the beds. Compost and mineral fertilizers are used to enrich the soil. If the land is swampy, you will need to arrange drainage. The best soil is the one in which previously grown:
- garlic;
- beans;
- beet;
- radish;
- greenery;
- carrot;
- wheat.
Non-woven black material – lutrasil – will help prevent bushes from freezing and protect them from weeds. It must be spread out on the garden bed, and then cross-shaped slots must be made above the holes.
Seedlings transplanted in the fall tolerate winter well. In spring, the bushes will bloom and bring a rich harvest. Timely transplanting ensures the annual growth of strawberries.
