Garlic is not only a valuable component of the dish. It also has antibacterial properties. When to plant garlic, what technology to use, and how to prepare the soil well – you will learn about all this right now.
Optimal planting times
First, let’s find out the timing for planting homemade garlic according to the calendar for 2022.
The winter variety is in most cases planted before the onset of cold weather – in mid-September or October. Then the teeth will take root before the ground freezes. In cooking, these varieties of plants are used in the summer.
Keep in mind that this garlic is difficult to preserve in winter, so domestic gardeners prefer to plant spring varieties as well. This is done in early spring, when there are no more severe frosts at night.

Site preparation
Gardeners who preferred to sow winter garlic in the fall prepare the soil for earthworks already in August, a month and a half before planting the teeth. It is important to fertilize the soil, nourish it with organic compounds. Add compost or manure to the soil. Peat, loam, sand are added to top dressing.
Remember that choosing a site for planting garlic is an important process. It is advisable to root this crop where zucchini, pumpkin and legumes were grown last season. Immediately before planting the vegetable, water the beds with a solution of coarse salt – 1 cup per bucket of water. Such watering will prevent the invasion of pests.
Ways of planting
Gardeners sow garlic using both classical and creative methods. Consider common technologies in more detail to determine their advantages and disadvantages.
Separate slices
Before planting, carefully inspect the heads, select the largest ones and take strong slices. In the garden, make furrows 3–5 cm deep. The distance between the slices is 10 cm. Stick them into the furrows, leaving the upper part above ground level. It is important to root the garlic upside down – this is the place where the cloves are fastened together, from here the root grows.
Now cover the garlic cloves with earth, and crush them with sawdust or sand on top, otherwise, when watering, the water will fall directly on them, which is undesirable. Sand is also poured into an empty hole before rooting the garlic cloves.
whole heads
The “lazy” method of planting agriculture is also considered popular. To do this, do not peel the heads of garlic and do not separate them into cloves. Make furrows in the ground and then root the heads of the plant to a depth of 15 cm. It is important to fertilize the soil before planting: garlic needs nutrients, especially when whole heads are rooted. It is better to prefer compost for plant nutrition.
Carefully select planting material: it is important that the garlic heads are large.
At the same time, remove the upper layers of the husk from them until the teeth appear. After tamping the garlic into the hole, sprinkle it with earth and water generously. Keep the distance between the holes at 25–30 cm.
With a tube
To plant a plant using this method, you will need a metal tube, in which the diameter will exceed the size of the garlic heads. Lower the tool into the soil. When you take it out, you will see that a portion of the earth has lingered inside. Fill the hole you have made with nutrient solution. Root the head of garlic, then sprinkle with the earth remaining in the metal tube.
By the way, this method is used by gardeners for planting onions, as well as bulbous plants.
