When to Plant Celosia for Seed Growing

Growing cellosis from seeds is the only way of reproduction in central Russia, since the flower does not hibernate in the open field. To grow strong seedlings, you need to know all the subtleties and features of this culture.

When and how to plant cellosia for growing seedlings from seeds at home

Only mature and grown seedlings are planted in open ground, the age of which is 2-2,5 months, so the sowing of seeds at home is done in early spring. The timing depends on the growing region, as a rule, this is the beginning of March, but sowing can be extended until the beginning of April. Later sowing dates are undesirable.

Cultivation of cellosis from seeds begins in March.

Celosia seeds are quite dense, which makes it difficult for them to germinate. Before sowing, they must be soaked for 2-3 hours in a solution of a growth stimulant or in water with sugar. Then the planting material is dried and sown in bowls with loose soil.

Small seeds need a lot of light for germination, so they are not embedded in the soil, but evenly distributed on its surface. Moisten well and place the container in the greenhouse. Germinate cellosia at a temperature not lower than +20 degrees.

Seedlings appear on the 7-10th days, but the seedlings still need high humidity, so it is too early to clean the greenhouse.

Care for seedlings of cellosis and growing from seeds at home

To get good seedlings, first of all, it is necessary to provide sufficient lighting for the seedlings for 5-6 hours a day. It is not enough to put the containers on the windowsill, as the seedlings will stretch out. At the beginning of March, natural light is not enough, so the seedlings of celosia are supplemented with special lamps.

Do not forget about picking, otherwise the sprouts will not have enough space for development. Celosia dive, when the second pair of leaves grows, they do it as follows:

  1. The plant is well watered and carefully taken out without disturbing the earthen lump.
  2. The seedling is transferred into an individual container with nutritious soil, the soil around is tamped and watered.
  3. Seedlings are shaded from direct sunlight for 2-3 days so that they take root.

Several pieces of celosia are dived into a large container, leaving 5-7 cm between the plants. 14 days after the dive, the plants are fed with a complex mineral fertilizer for flower crops. Further feeding is carried out once a month.

When transplanting seedlings into the ground, keep in mind that the flower prefers sunny areas, does not tolerate stagnant moisture at the roots and high air humidity. The transplant is carried out by the transshipment method, leaving up to 30 cm between large specimens.
