Agen is a prescription medicine with the active ingredient amlodipine. Agen is used by patients who struggle with hypertension or ischemic heart disease. Agen is a medicine that is not only intended to be used as monotherapy, it is also used in combination therapy. What are the indications and contraindications for the use of Agen?
Agen – composition and action
Agen is a calcium channel blocker. The active ingredient in Agen is amlodipine, which belongs to a group of medicines called calcium antagonists. The mechanism of action of amlodipine affects mainly blood vessels and is based on the relaxation of smooth muscles of the vessel walls and their expansion. As a calcium channel blocker, amlodipine inhibits the influx of calcium ions into the smooth muscle cells of the blood vessel walls and, to a lesser extent, into the heart muscle cells. The blockage of calcium channels reduces the tension in the walls of the vessels and their expansion. The direct consequence of this mechanism of action is the reduction of blood pressure.

Agen is a drug that is prescribed to patients struggling with arterial hypertension. The use of Agen is also indicated for the prevention of pain in stable ischemic heart disease and in the treatment of Prinzmetal’s angina.

Depending on the treatment progress and the patient’s response to Agen, your doctor may decide to increase the dose to 10 mg per day. Your doctor decides whether Agen will be used as monotherapy or in combination with other medications for high blood pressure or angina.
